Mulkey's scheduling is so embarrassing.
Yep, but she has done it for years. Despite all the metrics for SOS, finishing top 2 in a major conference locks in top 16 seed.

ie. no penalty for easy early schedule.

Kudos to Juju, 9 assists and 0 turnovers tonight. USC beat Cal St. Northridge 124-39. Looks like plenty of minutes for the reserves, Heckel and Howell both scored in double figures.

I had a question and didn't know where else to post it so I'm hoping somebody sees this and if they have info response s.

Does anybody know what happened at UC Riverside and Nikki Powell. She was the coach at least her last year or partially through last year and they have a new one with no word that I could find anywhere on how her coaching tenure ended.

When I see a squirrel like this as well as the LSU score I'm reminded of my admiration for Geno who minimizes playing the Little sisters of the poor at least of late.

Reminder to watch the Grand Canyon versus ASU game at 4:00 p.m. MST available on ESPN plus.

These are two programs moving in opposite directions. To me it's telling that administrations and athletic directors at two institutions take radically different perspectives toward their women's basketball program in general and their hiring in particular. Molly Miller is an example of a coach who stepped up in conference and competition and has been wildly successful. Natasha Adair not so much.

Now admittedly the challenges one finds in the Western Athletic Conference are significantly different than first the Pac-12 and now the Big 12. . . I suppose that's why AD make the big bucks.

Since arriving in Tempe in 2 years Adair has won four conference games.

The reluctance of ASU to recognize their hiring error and move on speaks volumes about their commitment to women's basketball.

Hey CSUN rolled into this game at 2-0! Although they won a total of 3 games all of last season, so...

Half of those wins are against Washington, so the Dawgs are doing their part to try to keep her employed.

edit--did their part, that's all in the past now, UW can't help them w/ the conference win ledge anymore

Fairfield only scored 7 points in the entire first half! Got beat by Richmond 62-39.
All credit to the Spiders' defense. Combine that with some brutal Fairfield misses on layups, no help from their few open looks, and that's how you get 7 points in 20 minutes. There was a point in the 1st half where I thought it looked like Fairfield's offense just didn't know what to try next. They did have some success in the 2nd half, but I don't think it ever got closer than 16 or 17(?).

I do think there were some positives on the defensive side. Stags were disruptive, competitive in rebounding, and turned Richmond over quite a bit. But for several soul-crushing shot-clock beaters, the Stags probably hold Richmond to under 60 points, which is a good starting point for victory in a game like this.

Oklahoma State is up next.

Lots of early games today. I'm guessing those are all going to be filled w/ many screaming very young fans.

BYU is hard to figure. All 3 games at times they look really good, and at times they look really bad. Beat Colorado St. today w/ a strong second half. Rough shooting for both teams, especially behind the arc. Gibb got off to a really slow start but finished w/ 19. The Ronsiek sisters were averaging around 40 ppg combined coming into today, they were held to 19 total.

Their upcoming schedule looks pretty soft until they get Iowa 11/29 in Cancun.

What was an interesting game. I wonder what your impressions were of:

Kimpson

UNLV defense

UNLV offensive rebounding

UofA turnovers continue

Swann and Jones in the second half

BTW I listenec to the UNLV broadcast and they indicated Bei. started her college career 5 years ago in Vegas before Lindy LaRoche arrived in Sin City.
I didn't especially notice Kimpson, the main UNLV player that I noticed was Jackson, that played very well at times and Brown who was from Tucson.

Arizona didn't value the ball - I don't know how much to credit UNLV's rebounding or Arizona's lack there-of. I wasn't overly impressed with the UNLV defense, I was impressed with some of their offensive plays.

Repeat of above - Arizona didn't value the ball. It will be a long season if they continue to turn it over so much.

Swann was as advertised. Jones is very good. Arizona is very talented, as I noted above. But most, if not all, have weaknesses they need to fix, one of them that has been written about is one-handed passing while in the air. Not a good process.

Yes, Beh started at UNLV, our AD Reed-Francois was AD of UNLV at the time.

Syracuse was rolling in Q1, but Maryland took over in Q2. That said, Syracuse have been playing them pretty close. It's only 42-31 in favor of MD at halftime, so the Orange could come out and close the gap quickly. Or it could be like the St. Joe's game and they simply let MD steamroll them for the second half. Right now TOs are hurting Syracuse the most; the two teams are mostly equal in all other stats right now.

Maryland 84
Syracuse 73

Syracuse put up a good fight, but every time the game got close in the 2nd half, MD found a way to extend the lead again. A few friendly whistles helped, but Syracuse was unable to reliably capitalize when they forced TOs and one of their key players fouled out with 2-something left in the game. This team does not yet seem to have the same dynamic scorer that they lost in Fair.

There are no "good" losses, but this was a good loss for Syracuse. Maryland is a vulnerable team right now, IMO.

Stats for former UConn players:

Saylor Poffenbarger | 27 minutes | 9 points | 2-3 FG | 4-4 FT | 9 rebounds | 4 assists | 3 TOs | 1 block | 2 PFs
Amari DeBerry | 2 minutes | 0 points | 0-2 FG | 2 rebounds
Mir McLean | 6 minutes | 0 points | 0-1 FG | 1 rebound

Edit: Syracuse's top scorer was Georgia Woolley. They will need her to be clutch in big games. She had a strong 1st half but struggled to score in the 2nd half. Kyra Wood had a good game for the Orange and was 2nd in team points.

Why does the male TCU commentator skip the "Van" in Hailey Van Lith more than 50% of the time? I can't count how many times he's referred to her as Hailey Lith or just Lith. Figure it out dude.

Speaking of, she's about to get her second double double in a row. First time was points/rebounds, this one will be points/assists.

Iowa looks like they have good balance and lots of options. Toledo might be rebuilding and has a new coach, but they've beaten Michigan the 2 previous years and have won the MAC 3 years in a row. Hawkeyes had a huge run in Q1 and never looked back.

St. John's escapes a close game with Loyola Maryland, 69-61. Another one in the win column for the Big East today.

Interestingly, ESPN stats show that both teams shot 22-46 (47.8%) from the floor.

That saint John’s loss would have cancelled out the butler win. It would have been a bad one with the computers. That’s a Loyola I have never heard of.

Wisconsin is getting the same lesson Creighton got. South Dakota state is good.

Believe it or not, Loyola was in the old Big East for a couple Olympic sports that their conference didn't sponsor. A very long time ago.

Former NY Liberty coach Pat Coyle as their head coach in the '90s

For many years, that was the only Loyola I ever heard of, now I know of Loyola Marymount, Loyola (Chicago) and maybe one other.
