Week 18 - Championship Week! (schedules thru 3/8)

WV's Kellogg with a great job in just his 3rd season.

He's from Texas and coached for 8 years at SF Austin. Wonder if he's now on the radar for TAMU or Tex (when Vic retires)?
There some coaches out there who’ve shown they can compete without elite talent at multiple schools. Coincidentally, Mark Campbell is another.

Boise St. edges New Mexico by 1 in another Mountain West quarterfinal. Broncos scored the final 4 points of the game.

I think Campbell has “landed”some elite talent at TCU.

He's also gotten quite a bit more out of some of those players than their previous coaches managed to do.
He definitely did with Sedona Prince. I don’t think he did more with Hailey Van Lith and Miles than Walz and Ivey did though.

If they put High Point as a #16, the amount of anger and fury coming out of the Piedmont Triad will be immeasurable and historic 🤬😡
You need more Samford-type teams to win their conf tourneys. The Bulldogs are likely rank #68.

That said, if the Panthers make it off the #16 line ... they are perfect geographic match for a certain 2 seed.

Being in the 16 seed play in game is what you want to avoid.

High Point was in that play in game last season. Until they stumbled down the stretch, Creame had them as high as a #14

My thing is, if you are gonna be a huge underdog, it would be more fun for the team to go to a faraway place instead of down the road in Durham. Like last season .. UNC-Greensboro went to LA instead of Columbia SC.

This isn't college football. Stop pushing the point spread crap.
Tell it to the computer models. And the computer models count a great deal.

Surely, you don't expect bureaucrats to rely expertise and intelligence.

I was thinking of Madison Conner and Prince in particular.

Walz did very well with Hailey Van Lith...but Mulkey sure didn't!

Also Suarez had a nice stint at Cal, but Tennessee didn't get much out of her. And this was by far her best season.

Some of those players probably aren't elite, but they were big contributors for TCU.

Cheaper for NCAA

Plus don't you want High Point fans to be able to drive to see the first #15 over #2 win?

Please give UCLA the no. 1 overall seed. I want UCONN going into the tournament angry and with a chip on their shoulders.
So UConn would take exception to receiving the second #1 seed and its anger over the disrespect will help motivate its tournament play? I suspect Geno could give a rat’s ass, maybe not Dawn, as demonstrated by the Gamecocks getting number 2 last year and her voicing complaints about it. When asked whether she thought UCLA deserved the #1 overall in the today’s game press conference Coach Close said she doesn’t expend any energy or focus on things out of her control. I imagine Geno feels similarly.

Close did mention previously that one benefit of receiving number 1 last year was getting assigned to the nicest hotel close to the final four venue in Tampa.

Yes Geno is not outwardly cranky like Dawn, but trust me the highest competitors in sports will take exception to many a small slights. Please watch the “the last dance”. Geno and players will say something like yeah I’m not bothered by the seeding, you play who’s in front of you. But I’m telling you in that locker room there will be that proverbial chip.

Hailey Van Lith’s tenure at LSU was a disaster. The portal giveth and taketh.

Texas and UCLA's talent is insane. I forgot about Odalcre until she started making an impact in the second half. Aaliyah Crump coming off the bench is insane. Jordan Lee was super impressive. She's always been fearless. They honestly looked like the more talented team. And much more so than in recent history, I wouldn't call it an offensive flow but players got the ball in position to score.
South Carolina just got beat. Still a number one seed that can definitely win it all. But I thought Dawn's rotations were a bit weird today, respectfully. Okot and Tessa playing 23 and 18 minutes respectively was a bit mind boggling. Tournebize looked good but green. Latson didn't really make an impact.
Tcu losing isn't that concerning to me. I feel like they rely so heavily on 2 players and those players, so winning 3 games in 3 days, especially with the last game being against such a good defensive team is a tall task. Depending on their matchup Miles getting past the sweet 16 is still a pretty tall order.
I think Iowa has overachieved. I think UCLA's talent is a joke (in a good way, like it's ridiculous how good they r). Ucla played a really good game though. I don't think they'll break a sweat until the elite 8. lsu, vandy can give any team a game.

Hey now... I went 2-0 to start out on Friday.

Proceeded to lose the next 7 the rest of the weekend...... But who is counting among friends. 😐
2-47, isn't that the same record Tennessee had to finish the season?

As a UConn fan, S. Carolina appears a bit scarier to me than does Texas. So if Texas moves into
the 3 spot as Creme would have it, then UConn being dropped into the 2 spot wouldn't bother me.

.-.
Today's games. Three more tickets to be punched today. I'm rooting for Air Force, as a first cousin once removed is a plebe at AFA after spending last year at Prep. She wants to play hoop, however not on the team this year. Go Falcons!
