Week 14 - Feb 2 to 8

SC dominating Tennessee in the second quarter. I'm tempted to say Tennessee looks like a team with a broken spirit. But the fact is SC is who broke their spirit. And is Tessa the one who speaks in on-court huddles now? I'm used to seeing Raven do that. Has she passed the torch to Tessa?

UCLA seems to be beating Michigan but can't seem to pull away. I can't quite put my finger on what's stopping them.
Glancing at the box score, if you take away Betts & Kneepens (8/15 FG), the rest of the team is 6/17 FG, which isn't typical of players like Leger-Walker, Jaquez or Dugalic. They also have 9 turnovers at the half which indicates they're not taking care of the ball and giving Michigan additional opportunities on offence.

Yes, that's what shows up in the stat sheet. But watching the game, it's hard to figure why they aren't playing better and pulling away. It doesn't appear to be anything Michigan is doing.

Gotcha.

The pundits who continue to keep SC off the contenders list to beat UCoNn and win the title should be warned. They are a formidable team with all the pieces.

Another good win for Creighton. They are doing a good job playing spoiler in the big east.

Probably can knock Villanova out of the ncaa tournament with a win next weekend.

They came back from a 10 point deficit and pushed the game to overtime. An entertaining game to watch this afternoon.

Oh look, Tennessee playing a good team and getting destroyed. Again. It's been happening all year long. They are an average team, their record is inflated due to schedule but will be self correcting down the stretch. Maybe next year Vols. Or not. Seems like this has been going on for 15+ years now.

41-9 in 2nd half

Not sure who the problem folks are, but TN basically quitting in these games. 5 seniors graduating will probably help
If Caldwell wasn't so slavish to her system, she'd start benching players.

I posted this in the TN thread:

Heard one of the announcers quote Coach Caldwell, saying something along the lines of the players needing to have faith and invest in the system, it works. Not taking anything away from SC today, however at the beginning of the 4th Q, three starters with 3 or less points, team shooting 27/22% (overall, 3 pt). TN has gone 11 deep, where SC is down a few players and only 7 have played so far.

They looked like they'd given up in the second half, maybe even in the second quarter. SC looked really solid -- not spectacular, but utterly solid.

I can't say I expected such a dominant win with so many players either playing hurt (Tessa and Latson) or out of the game (Makeer and McDaniel). I think it is in part our will to win but equally just a horrific coach and player performance from Tennessee. I gotta say that Coach Caldwell looks over her head. She doesn't know how to adjust when her system isn't working and I found it quite alarming that they never figured out how to break the zone. I don't think I've seen such a bad coaching job by a SEC coach since I started watching women's basketball. Yikes!

I still think Kim Caldwell has what it takes, but she’s going to have to change her system. If it doesn’t work with Cooper, Barker, Spearman, and a top recruiting class, it’s not going to work any other year.

I'm pulling for Coach Kellie at Mizzou.

Washington escapes Wisconsin with a 91-86 win in OT.
Barely avoided a 3 game losing streak.

HUGE game for Avery Howell--34 pts/14 rebs (on 12-19 shooting and 6-13 from 3 I might add). That's a lot of boards for a 6-0 guard. Sellers did her thing, Ladine with her best game in a while. Not much scoring outside those 3. They need a little more help up and down the roster.

Cardiac kids from Mich make a late run AGAIN, but miss a last second 3 to tie.

Even though I was rooting for Michigan, me screaming at UCLA - find the shooters, FIND THE SHOOTERS!

NGL, quarter by quarter, this looks like a UConn Big East game:

The Purple Huskies don't want me to be great (or at least to eat well)

Here’s an interesting stat: Michigan has played three top-5 matchups and lost all of them by 3 points.
