Kudos to Oklahoma for hanging around in the 2nd half against Texas. They looked dead in the water in the 1st half.

edit--78-70 final, sure didn't look like it was going to end up this close

edit #2--Beers is their 2nd leading scorer, but I keep seeing box scores where she barely gets any shots; 4-7 today, they really have to find a way to get her more touches
It's mind boggling to me.

Heiden scored all 19 of her points in the 2nd half, but got very little help from her teammates after the break. UCLA cruises to a 88-65 win. Dugalic led them w/ 22 off the bench.

And there go my Huskies again, I will never fully trust them. Lost at home by 9 to Illinois. Outrebounded, especially O boards, and loss the TO battle significantly. Outshot Illinois 54% to 45% and still lost by almost 10. That SHOULD NOT happen.

.-.
Is it me, or are there more untrustable teams this year than in years past. Can't trust Stanford, Washington, all of the Big 12, and 75% of the SEC.

Maybe @triaddukefan IS officiating this game?

Naw, woke up a bit under the weather this morning. Spent the afternoon on the couch watching basketball, eating fried chicken, ice cream, and Crunch and Munch.... and losing parlays.. 😔

No offense to our friends from UConn, but if UCLA plays like this against them their perfect season will be in danger.

Why are you letting the ACC skate? Can't trust most of them either.

edit--and for the record, I did tell you to put your UW hat way, way in the back of the closet, where you'd never find it again, but you didn't listen to me!

I like Kim Caldwell’s zest, high standards, and track record of winning. I’m not sold her system and style will work at this level.
I very much doubt Kim will be running this system much longer. If she sticks at Tennessee, as soon as she gets a few more top recruits — like she did for this season — she’ll revert to something more traditional. As Geno has observed, this is how you play if your roster isn’t good enough. I suspect this is just her way of building that better roster.

Random thoughts:
Tenn - not sure the hockey line subbing really works? UConn starters played 37, 29, 31, 28, 39 and pressed them.
Maryland - 4 losses in last two weeks. Ouch. Do they stay in t25?
Princeton - rights the ship with a win on Saturday
Vandy - ditto. Bounces back with a win vs FL, however took until the 3rd Q
Iowa - legit #8 or a paper tiger?
Oklahoma - did TX figure out the cheat code for Chavez (3-13)? LSU locked her in for 3-14 also.

On one inbounds pass, Beers hesitated about passing the ball in to Chavez even though she was wide open. Does she not trust her with the ball?
I didn't see the game, but I'm confused here as I don't recall ever seeing Beers inbound a ball during games. Is it possible you've reversed the names accidentally?

The reason why I ask is that I recall announcers commenting in other games that Chavez is still learning to get the ball into the post. Not sure if it's a trust factor, but of all people not to trust, I wouldn't have put Beers in that category.

And this after she suffered a near life ending foul at the hands of Stuelke. For a moment it felt like I was watching European men’s soccer.

No offense taken. But I’d say if UCLA plays like this against UConn, they’re toast. Slow and predictable, rather like their last meeting. They let Heiden score 22 with Stuelke sidelined by foul trouble. This is not championship level basketball. The bright spots are a sharper overall game by Betts and a rising star in Jaquez, even though she was quiet today, and the usual solid game by Dugalic. But all the same weaknesses remain. And I shudder to think of what will remain of their roster after this season.

It was after a made basket. I was surprised by it. I wonder if the rest of the team has lost confidence in their freshman PG.

Chavez is a loose cannon. That said, however, she is also a very necessary part of that offense and they cannot win the big ones without her. Problem is getting the best out of the two of them working together. A coaching nightmare to say the least.

Gotcha. I was thinking an inbounds play in a sideline out situation. Thanks for clarifying.

Iowa only dropped to #10; in my mind they're overrated by 5 or 6 spots. Yes, almost everyone is going to lose to UCLA in Pauley, especially when they shoot like they did yesterday. Losing Taylor McCabe is a significant problem. Her intangibles really had improved this year: defense, not turning over the ball, just simply knowing where to be on the floor at the right time. Those intangibles are especially valuable when you're playing the better teams. They'll be better in a month as they get things figured out but her absence will cost them more than the USC game.

That was a fairly legit shot to the throat. I doubt it felt very good.

Ugly last few minutes of the UNC-NCSt. Wolves seemed to have no offense other than drive and throw something up.
But somehow they got it within a basket at the end.

UNC 61-59
