Another great week of hoop my friends! There might be a few games missing, as ESPN's schedule update based on new t25 rankings didn't filter down to some of the days this week, and I tried to catch them, but eh. Eight t25 matchups this week.

Three undefeateds remain:
#1 UConn - Villanova (14-3, 7-1)
#5 Vanderbilt - Mississippi State (14-4, 1-3)
# 17 Texas Tech - Houston (6-10, 0-5) and Kansas State (9-9, 2-3)

Texas—SC looks to be a tough game. Maybe Vic’s not wrong about this vendetta thing. Maybe they’ll bounce back.

I wonder when the last time Texas Tech was ranked? They jumped all the way from unranked up to #18 in the latest AP poll.

I know some people around here will be happy to know that North Carolina dropped from the Top 25 (along w/ Washington and USC).

edit--Michigan St. got no love from the voters for a pair of road wins against at least semi decent teams (one of them was ranked at the time). Stayed in the same place at #15. All kinds of movement around them. That's pretty weird I think.

.-.
Is there seriously only ONE game today? Not just one game with a ranked team, but one game period? Unless ESPN is really messed up, that's all they are showing on the slate on this glorious Monday (it was short sleeve shirt weather this afternoon here in the PNW).

Maybe because of MNF?

Also probably the first day of classes at a lot of schools.

Alabama’s defense in qtr 1 was impressive. One of the best I’ve seen this year. Problem is they obviously can’t sustain it for an entire game or half. AND…don’t EVER complain about UCONN missing bunnies. Watch the game. Heck …just watch the first 2 quarters!

It is a playoff game, but there is MNF every week. I'm not aware of Monday's normally being a total dead zone for wcbb.
Not this dead, but historically quiet. Historically, there was often a "Big Monday" game of some sort, the SEC Network often had one women's game, and sometimes one of the other networks. But with most of the larger conferences playing on Sunday and the rest on Saturday, it has, like Tuesday and Saturday, traditionally been quiet.

Maybe someone should point that out to Coach Yo? 😏

You are correct. I went back and looked at the ESPN app's Monday schedules for December and January. The number of games did vary but there was more than one and usually quite a few, including Top 25 teams. So, I got nothing.

Texas Tech with a closer than expected 71-59 win over Houston. Looks like they led pretty much the whole way but never blew the game open.

Okay, I thought we were DONE w/ D1 teams playing D3 or NAIA or whatever. Why did Cornell just play SUNY Delhi? My next question was going to be if it was a branch campus on another continent, but I already answered my own question. It is in New York, not India. And it is in fact a D3 school. Cornell should be kicked out of D1 for scheduling a game against a D3 school 2 weeks into January. Why?

edit--the score was 106-27, I'm sure that really helps Cornell prepare for games against Ivies.

After SoCar plays Texas at home on Thursday, they travel to Baltimore for their game on Sunday against a tough in season OOC foe, Coppin State. (Sarcasm.)
But I do understand Dawn's rationale for playing this game.

Two impressive Michigan State ROAD wins at two historically difficult venues and no movement in the polls. Inexplicable. Some consolation: the Spartans are #7 in both Massey and NET.

Meh. While I can appreciate this perspective, it's been a while since Michigan State has been ranked this high. I could see voters being skeptical until they face the meatier portion of their schedule. Wins against Nebraska and Iowa this week would help their cause.

I have no idea why we are playing an OOC opponent during the SEC slate. UConn was the only exception. There is nothing to benefit from playing them now. My only guess is that we made a commitment to playing Coppin State and this was the only mutually available weekend.
