Week 11 - Jan 12 to 18

Mississippi St. beat Kentucky 71-59. There is a lot of sorting out to do in the SEC. Early on I thought Kentucky was pretty solid, but they've been struggling lately. Oklahoma is highly suspect as well I think. Hey Tennessee did get their second quality win of the season.

edit--how does Beers only get 8 shots for Okie? Lowest of the starters. Others had 12, 14, 12 and 17. Raegan was 5-8, the other 4 were 16-55.
Vols are 5-0 in the SEC. Tied with SCar & Vandy for 1st

Right, but easy schedule so far. Will change soon and loaded down the back stretch. Before today they had played Florida, Auburn, Mississippi St. and Arkansas. I'd venture easiest schedule anybody has faced to this point in SEC play.

edit--the next 4 in conference are all winnable, although they do step out of conference to visit UConn; 5 of last 7 are South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and Vandy. I'd say their only decent wins this year are Stanford and Alabama, and neither of those are exactly a signature W.

UCLA rolling over Terps. — up 20 in 3rd
Can bruins go undefeated in conference?
Terps were scrappy and hanging around in first half. Q3 has been a disaster for them.

UCLA shooting over 60% overall and 11-20 behind the arc. Terps are at 34% overall and 4-17 from deep. That will do it.

Weird lineup in Q4 for UCLA. Sienna Betts, Dugalic and Muse all on the floor together. They start 4 guards but apparently have 0 reserve guards available currently?

97-67 final.

I was impressed w/ Addi Mack from Maryland.

Jacquez scored 22 on 10-13 shooting. Leger-Walker had 17 and Kneepkens 16.

edit--somebody please decide if UCLA scored 97 or 99; I've seen the score flip flop back and forth several times, both the TV broadcast and ESPN's site

Mack is playing similar to earlier in the season when she was on pace for the All- Freshman team. That Illinois game sort of set her back a little.

Oregon was up 4 on Wisconsin w/ 1:07 left to play, but somehow let it get to OT.

edit--even worse up 6 w/ :51 left.

edit #2--wow, fouled a 3 point shooter w/ about 30 seconds left, then gave up another 3

Texas 80
TAMU 35

Fire Joni

Perhaps a good landing spot for the TCU coach??

Uh...A&M was only down 10 at the half against Texas. Got outscored 46-11 after that. How is that possible? 80-35 final.

Or maybe stay where he is? Already proved he can win and take them deep in the Tourney. And doesn't have to battle w/ Dawn, Kim and Vic.

Kelly Graves needs to learn about fouling on purpose when you are up by 3 late in a game. It's bitten him twice in 1 game. Might be going 2 OT now.

edit--yep, gave up a tying 3 w/ 16 seconds left in regulation, tying 3 w/ 5 seconds left in OT

Yet Auburn and Mississippi State both beat ranked teams.

So? The Vols have beaten teams w/ conference records of 0-5, 1-5, 2-4, 2-3 and 3-3. Easy schedule. Like I said, wait til the stretch run when they have to play SC, Texas, LSU, Vandy and some others.

And... in the some others is #1 UConn. Just sayin.

That's coming up sooner than later. Obviously expecting a loss for UT. But the end of their SEC schedule is much, much harder than the beginning has been.

Never heard of her before, but Destiny Howell scored 39 and Wisconsin wins 94-92 in 2 OT. Badgers are 4-4 in conference. I think coaches generally don't like doing it, but I gotta question Oregon getting burned twice by not fouling when up 3 late in the game. The only thing you can't do is give up a 3, and they did it at the end of regulation and the end of the first OT.

I’d like him to stay there. But it’s hard to turn down SEC money and resources, if they decided to use them.

Oh yeah, I was forgetting about money. His wife played ball at Vandy, so she knows the territory.

She sat out a large portion of the first half due to foul trouble. Had 2 shot attempts in the 3rd quarter. Zero in the fourth. The announcers also noted it during the game as they could understand the guards hunting for their shots when she was out. They were just as surprised as you that they didn't try to get her going in the second half.

Ducks with chance to seal it with 24 seconds left. Intentional foul. Fiso to the line. Misses both.

The most interesting thing about Tennessee is despite all the talk about Kim Caldwell and her system, the team is really not playing the style Caldwell envisioned (not counting the hockey-style substitutions).

After joining Tennessee, Caldwell's stated goals were 1) 85-90 shots per game, 2) force 20-25 turnovers per game, 3) 15 steals per game and 4) 20 offensive rebounds per game.

So far this season, even with some cupcake opponents thrown in, the Vols are 1) attempting 69 shots per game (65 vs conference opponents), 2) forcing 17.8 turnover per game 3) averaging 8.6 steals per game and 4) grabbing 17 offensive boards per game (15 against conference opponents).

Edited to add: Points per game are down this season compared to last (80 vs 86), with the more difficult part of their schedule coming up.

Stanford traveled to frigid upstate NY and lost to Syracuse 69-58.

Only 2 more trips to the east coast for the Cardinal: @Pitt and @GaTech and then @Miami and @FSU. At least there won't be snow in Florida.

If someone told you Iowa State is totally dependent on a single player, betcha Addy Brown wouldn’t be the first player to come to mind, eh?
If you switched Addy and Crooks I think the results would be the same.

Oops. Forgot the ACC tournament in Georgia. Three more trips to the east coast.

I never know what to expect from Washington, but after a slow start they controlled the rest of the game and beat Minnesota 67-54. I'll take it. That Purdue loss (meltdown) is going to haunt them, UW should be 5-2 instead of 4-3 in conference right now.

IMO this Tennessee team isn't as good as last years unit despite the better athletes. I think they're appropriately ranked right now. With that said, because they are more athletic I think they could upset a team or two. They did beat UConn last year with a less athletic core group.
