Week 1 games (Nov. 25-29)

LOL. Quite a few air balls and balls that missed and hit the side board

I love Ayanna Mitchell but she was awful from the FT line. I'm pretty sure the game plan for every opposing team vs LSU was "foul Mitchell"
Yes, I recall those lol.
I was calling it "hack-an-Ayana".

ASU got stuck at 44 for almost 4 minutes. Now leading 46-43 w/ 3 1/2 to go.

Cal trailing San Jose St 32-29 more than midway thru Q3. Yikes.

edit--Dalayah Daniels chose to be a part of that?

Iowa up 7 at the half, Clark has 17 on 7-11 shooting, 5 reb 3 steals 1 assist (but 4 TOs).
Not to be lost amid all the hype over Clark  is the fact that Northern Iowa is hanging tough on the road here. I believe they have most of their scoring back from last year. Kam Finley has provided a spark off the bench with 12 first-half points to keep UNI close.

No Pili for USC today but they still thumped LMU by 30. Only 7 players in the box score for the Trojans.

Watching Baylor early, the chemistry is not there yet granted its first game and the B team started. It was very sloppy offensively but they are hard nosed defensively. Carrington looks pretty good. Gusters will need to get in better shape but she moves pretty well for her size.

No Egbo so far. N. Smith is struggling badly shooting right now

ASU pulled away a bit late for a 56-47 win.

I'm streaming the Cal game now. They do not look good.

You jinxed them. Iowa pulling away in Q3.

San Jose St. beats Cal 56-48 in Berkeley. The Pac 12 should be really tough, but I think there are gonna be several really bad teams at the bottom.

I certainly didn't jinx Iowa by putting them in my BY25 ballot :D

Clark will no doubt be a huge star for Iowa. If she continues to perform at this level, she'll not only be all-Big Ten but she'll garner AA votes as well. Czinano and Warnock were excellent as well. Iowa exploded for 38 points in 3Q and put the result out of question.

Virginia at UCF (6p, ESPN+). Major opportunity for UCF to knock down, push, shove and mug P5 team.
There, I fixed it for you!
@Plebe a most excellent thread that you have posted.... .
Well done and much appreciated!!!!
While concur our esteemed colleague did a fine job with the slate of games and how/where to see the games but please don’t OVER-COMPLIMENT him, his meme head is already the same size as the rest of his body! Any bigger and all we would see is something representing the sun and rays...;)

Wow, that was awful. DD should have kept with her original "lean" and gone to Oregon State. Well, there is always the transfer portal.

I was waiting to see how N. Smith would do if she had to be the go to scorer. It always seemed to me that she was most effective taking opportunities that presented themselves as the defensive focus was on other players. She seemed more of a finess speed type player as opposed to a post banger.

Give it some time. The Cal roster was pretty thin on talent except for the incoming frosh. Lets give the coach some time to build the program back up. There weakness is in the backcourt. They lost what they had via transfers. Besides Oregon St is faily loaded in the the front line. It appears that Kennedy Brown might be back this season and if Aquino gets a cleared ( has been practicing with team ) they could field two very tall and solid front lines.

From the little I watched I thought Cal looked turnover prone. Took quite a while before the box score was available, Bears had 23 TOs. Hard to win that way. Both teams right around 30% shooting.

Looks like Washington is trailing San Diego St. 32-30 at the half. Quay Miller leading them w/ 13 and 7 boards. Team shooting 30% from the floor. Will Coach Wynn ever field a team who can shoot the ball?

For anyone that watched the Texas game today, did D Gaston look as good as her stats suggest?

Smith thrives taking advantages of opportunities when they present themselves but She is capable of scoring when she wants to though. She is a mismatch in the open floor for someone of her size and athleticism. I would like to see her knock down outside jumpers more. She has range although not from 3 point land. I think tonight was the first time I saw her try to shoot those shots.

Interesting that Queen Egbo got 0 minutes tonight. She has always been in Kim's doghouse most of her time at Baylor. She absolutely crucial for their team this year. I did like Bickle though. Tall lengthy player who rebounds and can score around the rim through contact. She honestly was the most impressive player for me watching Baylor play tonight. They obviously miss the leadership of Richards and don't have that chemistry quite yet. Andrews is clearly their best PG right now, I don't see it with J. Oliver.

Oh my...Tulane blew out Nicholls, 88-43, in the season opener for both teams. In one quarter, the Fighting Colonels only managed 4 points.

I'll try not to make assumptions about why Rhyne Howard was suspended. :p

i just watched Coach Lawson's post game press conference and she mentioned that she had talked to Coach Stringer recently... and that of all of the coaches she really wanted to coach against her, and was sorry that she won't get the chance this season. @KnightBridgeAZ

F PG Vanessa DeJesus looks good. #37 rank from ESPNw.

I like Kara's demeanor on the sidelines. Not celebrating with her players every little thing. I will clap when you win a Championship. (Geno like)

Agreed about DeJesus. Very poised for a frosh; she'll be a good one.

Did you see Kara when she was coaching 3x3 for USA Basketball? Very cool cucumber (although it's a bit different setup with the coaches more removed from the court).

From Lawson herself “[De Jesus is] just a talented player. She’s very composed and she’s got a great demeanor for a point guard,” Lawson said. “She knows our offense like the back of her hand. She knows where everyone’s supposed to be on the court on every play.”

Washington won a squeaker 61-59. I have to assume BYU is better than San Diego St., so the next game is gonna be tougher. Looks like offensive rebounding was the key to the game. 18-2 advantage for the Dawgs, allowed for a big difference in FGA--71-49.

edit--jeez, UW is short on players. I knew Peterson is out w/ an ACL and Watkins opted out this season, but no Rees or Griggsby tonight. Only 3 players that were in the regular rotation last season played today. 3 true Fr. and a RS Fr. got significant minutes, plus a former walk on Soph who barely played last year (she was awarded a schollie). Oh yeah, a JC transfer is also apparently out for the season after hip surgery.

Of possible interest to UConn fans, Gabby Williams' sister Jayda Noble made her debut w/ 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Caitlin was smooth and in control the entire game with UNI not being able to control her regardless of how they tried to defend her. She did get a lot of help from Monika Czinano (All BIG) and McKenna Warnock ('20 All BIG Fr.) which was expected but several others who she began to trust in the second half really opened things up for the team. A lot to work on but a lot to build from too and their next two incoming recruiting classes are impressive.
