Week 1 games (Nov. 25-29)

Watched half of the 3rd period and if the jerseys were blank I'd pick UCF as the P-5 team. Their athleticism is way above Vir.

And Virginia is a mess. I counted 4 straight turnovers from lazy passes into the box from the key. All the same.

UCF looks interesting. Probably better than USF

Virginia was up early 13-1 but since then, played terribly. Such a slow team. Down 33-23 at the half to UCF. UCF transfers (Especially Alisha Lewis from Syracuse) are doing well.

Fun half time story on the friendship / rivalry between Nykesha Sales and Tina Thompson
After a totally dreadful start, UCF righted the ship. The second half has been complete Cavalier carnage. Outscored them 27-11 in the last 20 minutes.

Lewis has had a great game, all the more remarkable considering she only found out today that she is eligible. Diamond Battles has also been very effective after a cold start.

I'm hoping that they'll post the really nice piece on Sales and Thompson somewhere on the Internet, so the folks on the main board can enjoy it.

So I got Houston over Okl and UCF over Vir. AAC- 2 P5- 0

Just a PSA: the links to live streams are also included in my game list at top of thread :)
Thanks @Plebe I didn't know you have done such a great job. That makes our life so easy :).

Caitlin Clark in double figures early for Iowa vs. Northern Iowa. Is it just me, or did the hype about her basically die when she picked the Hawkeyes? I could easily see her being one of the biggest impact Freshmen in the country this season.

Egads, Arizona St. leading SF Austin 44-40 w/ about 7 minutes left. They might take playing ugly to new depths this year.

The AAC did quite well last year against the so-called p5 teams:

Cincinnati beat Utah and Pittsburgh.
UCF won at Pittsburgh.
South Florida beat Texas.
Tulane won at Washington.
Wichita State beat Oklahoma.
Houston beat Oklahoma.
Memphis beat Kansas State.
(and UConn was 7-3 vs. p5 teams.)

SFA is not a bad team. Underestimate the Ladyjacks at your peril :)

I wasn't trying to dis SFA. ASU has a tendency to be offensively challenged, this year could be even more so. Last I looked they had 2 in double figures--Walker and Hanson. They seem to lose a bunch of key players every year, but maybe this is finally the year they take a step or two backward.

Lol LSU last year probably had the ugliest free throw shooting I've ever seen in a D1 team. Not just misses but downright clunkers.

LOL. Quite a few air balls and balls that missed and hit the side board

I love Ayanna Mitchell but she was awful from the FT line. I'm pretty sure the game plan for every opposing team vs LSU was "foul Mitchell"

Iowa up 7 at the half, Clark has 17 on 7-11 shooting, 5 reb 3 steals 1 assist (but 4 TOs).

Yes, I recall those lol.
I was calling it "hack-an-Ayana".

ASU got stuck at 44 for almost 4 minutes. Now leading 46-43 w/ 3 1/2 to go.

Cal trailing San Jose St 32-29 more than midway thru Q3. Yikes.

edit--Dalayah Daniels chose to be a part of that?

Not to be lost amid all the hype over Clark  is the fact that Northern Iowa is hanging tough on the road here. I believe they have most of their scoring back from last year. Kam Finley has provided a spark off the bench with 12 first-half points to keep UNI close.

No Pili for USC today but they still thumped LMU by 30. Only 7 players in the box score for the Trojans.

Watching Baylor early, the chemistry is not there yet granted its first game and the B team started. It was very sloppy offensively but they are hard nosed defensively. Carrington looks pretty good. Gusters will need to get in better shape but she moves pretty well for her size.

No Egbo so far. N. Smith is struggling badly shooting right now

ASU pulled away a bit late for a 56-47 win.

I'm streaming the Cal game now. They do not look good.

You jinxed them. Iowa pulling away in Q3.

San Jose St. beats Cal 56-48 in Berkeley. The Pac 12 should be really tough, but I think there are gonna be several really bad teams at the bottom.

I certainly didn't jinx Iowa by putting them in my BY25 ballot :D

Clark will no doubt be a huge star for Iowa. If she continues to perform at this level, she'll not only be all-Big Ten but she'll garner AA votes as well. Czinano and Warnock were excellent as well. Iowa exploded for 38 points in 3Q and put the result out of question.

Virginia at UCF (6p, ESPN+). Major opportunity for UCF to knock down, push, shove and mug P5 team.
There, I fixed it for you!
@Plebe a most excellent thread that you have posted.... .
Well done and much appreciated!!!!
While concur our esteemed colleague did a fine job with the slate of games and how/where to see the games but please don’t OVER-COMPLIMENT him, his meme head is already the same size as the rest of his body! Any bigger and all we would see is something representing the sun and rays...;)

Wow, that was awful. DD should have kept with her original "lean" and gone to Oregon State. Well, there is always the transfer portal.

I was waiting to see how N. Smith would do if she had to be the go to scorer. It always seemed to me that she was most effective taking opportunities that presented themselves as the defensive focus was on other players. She seemed more of a finess speed type player as opposed to a post banger.

Give it some time. The Cal roster was pretty thin on talent except for the incoming frosh. Lets give the coach some time to build the program back up. There weakness is in the backcourt. They lost what they had via transfers. Besides Oregon St is faily loaded in the the front line. It appears that Kennedy Brown might be back this season and if Aquino gets a cleared ( has been practicing with team ) they could field two very tall and solid front lines.

From the little I watched I thought Cal looked turnover prone. Took quite a while before the box score was available, Bears had 23 TOs. Hard to win that way. Both teams right around 30% shooting.
