Hello! Just wondering, how many CPA's do we have on the yard? Any hints that you can give me for the exams? I just started my course prep, but I do intend to pass all four tests within the next two windows. WISH ME LUCK!

I've got two out of the four sections done already and I'll hopefully be done with the last two by the end of May. Put in the time once so you don't have to do it again, do all the multiple choice questions in the program twice, and just follow the course. I use Becker and so far I've done very well.

Take the test seriously, study hard and pass all four in one shot. It's doable.

Dove -I did Roger CPA Review. I really enjoy the videos. He is high energy and that seems to help with the focus.

CL-I plan on it ;0)

I just sent in everything to get my NTS. I actually love test-taking and I plan on getting auditing out of the way before they make the changes later this year.

I'm a CPA, office is in Westport. I took the exam so long ago, well the only thing relative I can advise is to study, study, study. As CL says - take it seriously! I did it without a review course but I did take several practice exams to get the test style. As an anecdote, Corene Norguard was my audit prof and she gave us the audit portion (a 3 1/2 -4 hour test) as our final to do in 2 hours. I had one of only 2 passing marks! After I graduated in December, I went through tax season and studied every other moment for 3 months ... it was worth it as I passed all 4 on the first go around, so it is doable with a UConn accounting education!

I am a CPA in New Jersey. I also took the exam quite a few years ago, but will never forget how tough it was. When I took it, Nj required you to take all four parts at once and you had to pass at least 2 parts and not score below 50% on the other 2 in order to get any credit. I took a review course and really feel that i would not have passed without it I also passed all four parts on my first attempt. I know I never would have without the review course. They provide great strategies for taking the test and taking sample exams (or exams that were previously used, which was customary, as they were released with the correct answers back when I took it). You really do need to study and most importantly, read the questions on the exam carefully as your answer may depend on how the question is worded. Good luck to you.

Received my NTS today. AUD scheduled for 4/17 and REG for 5/29. I'll see about the other two once these are done. Wish me luck!

Get in there and do it like Kelly Faris would and you'll be fine.

Just keep in mind that the stuff on the CPA exam is almost 100% irrelevant to what you will face in the real world. I'm a controller of a privately owned company, done the CPA firm shtick, and trust me, it's really different.

Except for the 1% of accountants working on SEC clients I'd venture. My world as a small CPA firm (6 people) with personal and small business clients couldn't be farther from the academic concept or CPA test worlds.

If colleges really wanted to prepare accountants they'd make us minor in psychoanalysis - a lot of what I do involves "counseling".

I did it for the excitement. :)

Of course, I'm a Financial Analyst and not a CPA. We make fun of those guys when they get all giddy over finding a standard cost should be $3.8674 rather than $3.5674. I actually had this happen and the auditor made me send to England to get the invoice to prove he was right.

Yeah, don't flip out. Some crazy girl sitting in the row in front of me in the HCC Exhibition Hall way back when did and it unnerved me. I blamed her for not passing on my first attempt.

My friends and family think that since I am a CPA, I should always be the one to figure out how to split the dinner check.
Use it to your advantage. ;)
