Most of those 11 completions were at or behind the line of scrimmage (just three passes were completed 10 or more yards down field) as evidenced by the team's average yards per pass being below 5 yards... one was a batted ball that the receiver made a diving catch on for an 11 yard loss. UConn had negative passing yards until there was just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. He had 3 balls batted due to his throwing motion coming from a 3/4 - sidearm slot.

It wasn't good QB play, through no fault of Farrar's; he simply wasn't ready, but had to answer the call (and not having Bell to potentially break some of those short bubble screens as he did throughout the season didn't help). Now we move forward into the Candle era and hopefully Candle can take some of what he saw in the game and through the practices into creating the shopping list for the portal.
Exactly what you would have expected from a true frosh who had taken just a couple or 3 snaps all year, with both starting tackles out. Next year he will be a RS freshman. 7.6 yards per completed pass, longest was 28 yards to Reymelo Murphy which means that the average for the other 10 was 5.6 yards. They managed him so that there were no turnovers. Neither outstanding nor bad. What was expected under the circumstances. He may still be starting for UConn in a couple years, who knows. He did nothing to damage his future to put it that way. But since deception is the name of the game in football, he has to lose those orange shoes. Why would you want to draw attention to your feet if you are a QB?

It was generally bad.

I think most reasonable people would agree that when you have a good young quarterback, through the inexperience you see a spark of potential.

I saw a guy who was doing his best but repeatedly made the same mistakes. He scrambles nicely but that’s about it.

And it’s not like this game was in September. He has been practicing in this scheme for months.

It's a bit like that Mytle Beach Bowl. The QB was so bad you knew he was never going to be the answer going forward.

I'd expect that trend the line (to the extent that two points can actually give you a trend line) to continue if they bring us back a third time in a row.
I would disagree. There was a black cloud around this game that won't be there in the next few years if we do get future Boston invites. The Mora departure and the string of events that followed made it easy for fans to say F it. And the bowl game still got 22K to show up. Which all things considered was fairly competitive with some other bowl attendances.

People who are hating on the Fenway Bowl - well what other bowl are UConn fans going to show up to in better numbers? I don't have the financial wherewithal to buy plane tickets and make it an additional vacation on top of the other family stuff we do - especially with all the $ being spent this time of year. Pinstripe doesn't give a crap about us with the tie-ins they have; we'd have to hit a lotto ticket to get an invite there.
Are there warm weather bowls where 20K UConn fans show up? Tropicana Bowl had 14K attendance. Myrtle Beach Bowl had 12K attendance. No winter storms down there but the attendance? Embarrassing.

Me and my group went to the game understanding the situation and knowing we were staring at a likely loss having to watch a painful triple option against a bad run defense in cold weather after spending the morning shoveling out. But we went to support the football program. When we are in the desperate position we are in to get into a conference, it's best if we don't slow down our own momentum both in terms of performance on the field and support in the stands. As fans we can't control the play on the field or the players who choose to play - but we can control the support.

Agree with above article, just a bizarre choice by Bell to make such a deal about himself playing in the bowl and then basically not playing. I almost prefer the way Joe just made the decision that he thought was best for him and sat out. Wish them the best of luck as they gave us a great season, but how they ended their careers here leaves a bitter taste.

Where did you see sparse crowd?
No attack but on television. Fenway has additional bleachers for football that gives them up to 40,000.
Announced was 22,461.
You must have been in a hugging area to keep warm. I missed that view. Thank you for being a UConn fan.

I did not see any extra bleachers setup. They used the permanent stands up to about the 3rd base dugout and the bleachers out to the triangle (they do use the Monster seats). The left field area behind the two team benches was left vacant and used to introduce various honorees. In theory they could add bleachers there, but the last two seasons they haven't.

Given the weather, coaching transition and player opt outs, the crowd was as good as we could have hoped. We were engaged and loud too, at least until it got out of reach in the 3rd quarter. The tv views aren’t going to show much of the 1st base side, which was full

It was visibly less full than last year. The fact that the weather was sub freezing, UConn fans had no idea what kind of a team we had AND WE STILL drew more than any game prior to last year speaks well of our fan base, and makes one ask why the heck someone is sponsoring a bowl game in Boston in late December.
