Wasabi Fenway Bowl Game Post Game

ND was right why play in these 3rd rate exhibition games, they’re awful? I mean the reality is that JMU and Tulane being in the playoffs and not ND tells you it’s not only the bowls that are screwed up by the NCAA.

It’s not a reward to go 9-3 and be selected for Fenway Park in freaking December let’s be honest. No palm trees, desert sun or anything instead 6 inches of snow? Don’t blame anyone for anything Army wanted to be there UConn not really. I mean the poor QB wasn’t close to being ready. A damn good thing that first pass in the 2nd drive was blocked at the line the replay showed a pick 6 was inevitable otherwise.

Ugly football, but almost every bowl has been the same. NCAA doesn’t care they make money no matter. But the days of the Rose, Cotton, Orange, Peach, Tangerine and other bowls are long gone. That used to be fun, it’s over!
I am curious. How was attendence today?

Now, this game - and the season - is over. I'm looking forward to next year. That said, if people who opted-out on the game, why should Coach Candle let them back? Is Tucker in the portal, is that why he didn't play? The QB who played today seems like he was in over his head. It wasn't his fault, it was his first snaps of the year. I thought he was ok with the limited time he had learning.

I heard he is in the portal, so next year, we might have a totally different team. I was in the chat, but I'm was on an island in Tampa Bay.

I believe the bowl games will be gone in about 5 to 10 years...
He is literally less than a year out of HS.

Folks have asked what we’re playing for? I think we’re playing for our lives. No meaningful bowls, no CFP, no conference.

So our mission is singular - play for survival. Last long enough to find us a home. Jim Mora gave up, and so might candle, though I hope he’s the one who gets us there. Regardless, there’s your meaning right there. No one else is fighting that battle like us. Even silly umass has a path to meaningful post season play. We on the other hand, could go 12-0 and still end up playing army in the wasabi bowl a third time.

That is the diff between us and a conferenced bad team, IMO.

Random thoughts:
Man it was cold out there.
Kudos to UConn nation for showing out.
I root for the front of the jersey, not the back.

Thank you to all those players who showed up today and tried to get us a W.
It was a fun but frustrating season.
We saw today how important Fagnano was.
If Mora were here, the D would have had a slightly different scheme.
The die was cast when Mora left and Fagnano decided not to play.
Any team outside of Army or Navy would have been easier to deal with in these elements.
I look forward to see how Candle can elevate this program.
Next year's schedule looks to be difficult. If there are bowl games and we can get into one, I will be ecstatic and gladly go.
On to basketball and then baseball- roll skies!

We as a fan base have certainly become entitled and very quickly. As much as the overall situation sucked its a hell of a lot better than 3-4 years ago when we could not sniff a bowl. The only thing we can do as fans is show up no matter what. Guessing from reactions here many would rather complain about it all and not show up. That helps nothing if you consider what our greater goals are/should be. KUdos to whoever played today amd represented my university and those fans that showed up. It was cold out there.

It is probably important to realize that this year was unusual in that at the end of a highly successful season HCJM threw a turd in the punch bowl and left for at very best a lateral with no pay increase. That harshed the vibe in a major way to use a long outdated colloquialism. Had UConn not needed the payday so desperately, they should have discontinued all bowl negotiations when that happened. They had 12 days before the bowl invites came out. But that chunk of cash, however much it is, represents a significant portion of UConn's NIL stash. So you really cannot blame the AD. I am sure they knew they were making a pact with the devil and that it was sort of a buy game proposition.

Coach Sammis said Skylar would play as long as he wanted to.
So he wanted to play one series!!!
All his talk about playing for his team what a joke.
Agree you can’t be that demonstrative pregame about playing for your team than cash it in after one series. Say one thing then do another.

Buy Game, good take

Yes, Bowl system needs to be reimagined(saved?)

Please stop telling AD to get us in a Power Conference. Height of naïveté. It’s first thing he thinks about when he wakes up and last thing he thinks about before turning in.

Buy game analogy spot on Tuthill. Just a bummer it’s the last memory of 2025 Football season.

Does UConn actually make that much money on this bowl game once travel costs and guaranteed ticket sales are included?

Absolutely. If our best players don't want to play, than the entire team doesn't get to play. Maybe for once the schools should take some power back in this "new world of college football" Take control of your brand and name from these spoiled 6 figure earning players.

If you take out pop tarts, the most viral tweet going around from college football today is that UConn's QB sat out the game while Army's QB played with a 101 temperature. That's the introduction that many got of the 2025 UConn football team today. Quitters. We would have been better off ending the season after the win over FAU.

Exactly why I spent my money to travel to a meaningful game @ FAU.
Plus the location. I think a lot of people will think twice next time. It's too bad but the powers that be are killing what was loved about CFB. They'll eventually find a way to wreck hoops too.

What other sport asks players to risk their careers in a post-season exhibition game?
Every one, right? You are making a false distinction between bowl games and any game during the season.

Here's your original quote:

Anytime you play sports you put yourself at risk. A college golf player could injure himself preventing him from having a pro career. A college volleyball player could get concussed, preventing her from a career in…say...accounting. How is one of those things any less "absurd" than another? So following your train of thought to its logical end point, you're advocating for no collegiate sports.

This was gonna be a tough game even with Joe and Skyler and everyone else playing and Monken is a better coach than Mora. Gotta give credit to Army they wanted it more we'll move on from this.

The only thing that sucked was paying the money for tickets to this game and sitting in the cold while Army's entire team went all out. This loss doesn't bother me, I understand today's circumstances and it's a "meaningless " bowl game but if you went to the game you would have a different perspective.
The school shot itself in the foot. People are going to think about paying high ticket prices for bowl games going forward.

Uconn has successfully navigated the NIL and transfer portal in BB with great coaching and player moves....probably the best in all of college basketball.

I just don't see the football program having the financial resources to compete at the next level. They have done very well with what they have to work with. How much will it cost to keep Cam Edward's and grab a top QB?
9- 4 is an excellent season that a lot of fan bases would love to have.
Watch us.

UConn didn't shoot itself in the foot as this is not a UConn only problem. This is what is happening at virtually every school not named Army in the bowls. So, UCONN opted out of football for COVID and that still has lingering effects and you wanted to opt out of the bowl as well because of some adversity? What does that say about UConn? And, Notre Dame has been crushed by public opinion by turning down a bowl.

Yeah, opt out of a bowl in your back yard and you may never get another invite. But in this case they had 12 days to signal to organizers they were not interested because they could not muster a quorum of the starters.

Depends upon the bowl, and if independent, whose slot you are taking and how much you are paying for it, if anything. Supposedly this year UConn took the ACC slot and some have posted that the payout is more to the ACC.
