Maybe I missed it, but I was listening pretty carefully to all of the commentary by the ESPN experts last night --- and I don't remember hearing any compliments or references to the impact Kaleena has had on UConn's season (and is expected to have in the NCAA Tourney). BE freshman of the year. BETournament MOP (while Skylar didn't even make the all tournament team). The 2nd leading scorer on UConn's team. The BE 6th man of the year. The player without whom UConn would have had many more losses.

I heard we have "only one center (Stef) and an inconsistent Tiffany Hayes". It seemed that the ESPN pundits did their homework on all the other top contenders -- but not on the kids from Storrs. And all those wise women (but one) have broadcast numerous UConn games.

What's up with that?

Or did I miss something?

Regardless, KML will be a big player on the big stage for the next three weeks.

GO HUSKIES!

Another big story (IMHO) that the pundits missed last night is that UConn is the only #1 seed that has no All Americans on their team. That is rare for a one seed; and very rare for a National Champion. UConn's quest for a national championship (without any AAs) should be a good story line to follow throughout the tournament for as long as UConn is still playing.

You have to remember that the commentators are up there for one reason and one reason only - to sell the product. So their emphasis is not on accuracy. They have the tough job of making every matchup look competitive. This guard from East Biloxi is as good as any in the country, they can run with the best, this gal from Upper Podunk can sink the threes from half court, yada, yada, yada.

And then they spend all the time on the big stars; BG, SD, the Ogwke sisters, etc. Like Geno says we have no stars, no big names, no leaders, as you say no AAs.

And then the gossip. They started off covering the #1 seeds, or um three of them, leaving out UCONN in favor of Tennessee and their soap opera season.

Pretty poor show if you ask me (no one ever does). I turned it off after the brackets were completed.

This ignoring UCONN is a good thing. To me, it means that ESPN is building the tournament drama. If UCONN does as we all hope and expect this team to do, which is waking up and maturing at the right time, we can be the underdog - WOOF, WOOF!!!

We'll teach them a lesson, yea.

Ignoring UConn?

Every pundit on ESPN.com (six) picked UConn to make the Final Four.

And as far as discussing potential weaknesses in a team, not having a true power forward is one of UConn's. It is a fact and part of what one does with analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each team.

As for as having zero All-Americans, given most of the teams/awards have yet to be announced, why would that be mentioned? As an aside, Tiffany Hayes was named an All-American by ESPN.com.

Also, given how Geno has been mentioned in discussions for COY on ESPN, I seriously doubt the claim that UConn was being ignored.

Cam, they're just spoiled. Don't worry, they'll be fine when they win another NC.

I was going to say. Started to wonder if fish wasn't the only thing being smoked... :-)

What I found weird is that at the top of the show they mentioned Baylor, ND, Stanford...and Tennessee? No UConn. It's not like UConn didn't show it could play with those top 3 this year.

UConn has come into the tourney ranked #1 each of the least four seasons. UConn has also had at least one NPOY candidate past four seasons. This year you have an imperfect team with imperfect players that nevertheless may end up with a perfect result. However, there should be little surprise going in that UConn is not going to get as much press as it has in recent seasons.

I think this team plays better not being the hot topic or the #1 team. They're too young at too many key positions to handle it. A year from now will be a different story.

first she "passed"... now she's in witness protection, she has more stories than Jimmy Hoffa

The slight toward UConn was glaring. Even wondered early on in the show if we might have been NIT bound (not that there's anything wrong with it)!

ESPN kicked off the show with promos of the 3 #1 seeds not named UConn and then doubled-down on the slight by including a Tennessee plug in the segment. We all know Carolyn Peck is an SEC and TN homer, but that doesn't make it any less obnoxious to listen to.

ESPN realizes UConn has the widest national fan base and MOST PROLIFIC FAN WEBSITE in WCBB and they're intentionally kicking the hornets nest to stir things up and serve red meat to those long suffering from UDD (UConn Domination Disorder). They understand this may be their last best chance to kick a little sand in UConn's face for the next 5 years and beyond, so they're getting in their licks why they can.

I'd tell ESPN and the rest of WCBB to savor-the-flavor while they can, but I think our current crew of Huskies might just ruin everyone's parade earlier than expected.

Lastly, I enjoy Kara Lawson's commentary and acknowledge that Britney Griner is a unique, dominating talent and likely POY at the WCBB level. But the hyperbole of Lawson anointing her as "the best center in the World" at this time was over-the-top and a bit insulting to Tina Charles, Sylvia Fowles, Lauren Jackson, etc. She may very well become the best, but suggesting that now before she's played a single game in the WNBA, professionally overseas or in the Olympics is pure conjecture and projection.

Kaleena was investing in the future and helping to get the team some wins in 2014 and beyond, as she likely was hosting Brianna Turner in a game of H-O-R-S-E. :D

This year it's all about Griner and Baylor. Every body knows that.

Let everybody forget we exist. No problem. And if Baylor is to fall in the tournament, and that is possible, let's see how ESPN rewrites the story.

We may still be at the final four and prove the "experts" wrong.

By the time they get to the White House Obama won't know anyone.

Did they really talk about an "inconsistent Tiffany Hayes"? I must have missed that.

Oy! Don't get Icebear going on and on again about his cousin the basketball coach, Lutefisk Olson.

If we're lucky the other team's defenses will "forget" about KML too ..... but I doubt it ;)

I know that CRAP like this shouldn't bother me, but it PMO that they skipped one of the #1 seeds to feature TN, a #2, and I think that 2 was MORE than they deserved.

I think it is understandable that focus is on the very dominant players who are on the top teams: Griner, Diggins, the Ogwumike sisters and Delle Donne are the best examples. Very similar to recent years when Maya got so much attention. Likely similar to upcoming years when UConn expects to have Kaleena among several exceptionally talented players.

I just don't think that we have a strong gripe about consistent shortage of media coverage of our Huskies. Even if they didn't get it last night.

First I thought ESPN was trying to counter the UConn bias they've been accused of.

Next I thought maybe the committee was just giving PHS a number one seed as a retirement gift.

Then I shook off the paranoia.

All is well in Huskyland:)

In 2004, the ESPN talking heads picked Penn State over UConn. After we dismantled PSU, Barb Turner noted in the interview their prediction as being part of the Huskies' motivation. Don't dismiss a team with BTX and Dee.

For the past few years they've highlighted Tennessee on the selection show, even though they haven't been very good, and some other team has been minimized. This year it was us.
