Seriously whats the hold up - the longer it takes the longer it affects recruiting. The school has plenty of dough. Sign him to a 7 yr 20 million dollar deal already. I know people like Manuel but he frustrates me. I still can get over that 2yrs ago he was down in the Virgin Islands watching the uconn women play instead of burning the midnight oil in the states to try to secure us Maryland's spot in the ACC. I don't care that they probably still would have taken Louisville - I wanted to see the effort.

Who likes him?? Really? Is he still "monitoring" our crap conference situation?

Seriously? How hard is it to read at least the first page of threads?

On the other hand, this is exactly what the basketball board needs. Anytime you can start a third thread where two others address the exact same thing (on the first page), you have to do it.

What is worrying about this going to solve? The season is changing, the birds are singing louder, and the earth is spinning. The world does not revolve around Ollie. Some posters need to step away from the keyboard and go outside.

In fact women are a great solution to changing one's attention.

Such a stupid thread. Yeah, Warde is probably out golfing and not even thinking about Ollie. Probably hasn't given a contract extension any thought since the season ended. Come on.

If KO leaves, what Warde did or didn't do will not be the reason. It will be because KO wanted to go to the NBA.

Jeezus. The only silver lining about the Warde-haters is that at least you seem to have moved on from the stupid donut jokes.

You do realize there are two sides to every negotiation, right?

If Ollie leaves it will be either Hathaway or Warde's fault according to the BY. It's not possible that maybe just maybe KO's dream job is actually the NBA and not his alma mater, right? I would be ten toes in while on a 7 month job interview too, but that doesn't mean I'm not striving for another goal. The truth is none of us have a freaking clue what's going on but it doesn't smell good. What this program needs is stability and not to go through a coaching search charade every other year. Here's to hoping Ollie stays 20 years and puts an end to this circus.

Everybody in this board makes excuses for Warde, nothing is Warde's fault.
The idea that Warde Manuel would be the deciding factor in whether Kevin Ollie coaches, say, the Lakers next year is just a really odd thought.

I have no idea what KO is thinking but if I were in KO's shoes I would not consider signing a contract until after I fully underztood what was and what was not available in the NBA. His signing a new deal early is to UConn's advantage and helps alleviate stress among fans but it is in no way, shape or form in his best interests. I highly doubt that the delay is due to WM.

For those worried about recruiting, the biggest recruiting period in the summer is during July. If Ollie hasn't signed a contract extension with UConn by then, there will be bigger concerns than who the incoming freshmen for 2015 are.

A certain amount of damage is already done. KO has shown that he would readily go to the NBA if offered the right situation. It may not happen this year or anytime in the near future, but if I'm a recruit I'm thinking it will happen while I'm there. And if I'm an opposing coach I'm making sure recruits know it. We'll have to live with it, and others deal with the same issue, but it will have an impact IMO.

Some on this board are so insecure. The contract is being worked on, however if the NBA comes in and offers a contract that is way beyond what UCONN could offer then KO has a decision to make. No sense in worrying about it. Will find out in the near future what KO has decided to do.

OP acting like KO is available for purchase. Why doesn't Warde just go to the DAMN Wal-Mart and buy himself some DAMN Kevin Ollie before they run out????

Contracts are a two way street. Doesn't matter what kind of figures are thrown out there if KO isn't signing yet.

I may have missed some important news bit on this issue, but how exactly has Ollie affirmed the notion that he "would readily go" to the NBA? Did he say that somewhere, or are you extrapolating this from his (in)actions?

Assumptions based on statements and inaction. He has never said he isn't interested in the job(s) and he's been clear and consistent that he'd "listen." His last statement was "“Don’t believe everything you hear!! Only meeting I have is with my team on Thursday at Gampel. We are preparing everyday for greatness!!" That debunked the rumor that he had meetings imminently scheduled but I think its obvious it's not a denial that he is interested or will schedule meetings in the future. I believe all of his statements have been honest and leave the door open for him to interview later.

If he is interested in the NBA this year, I think KO is going about things the right way. He could've done what hundreds of coaches before him have done by claiming he has no interest in the Lakers, OKC, etc. and then later saying he has to make this decision for his family or something like that. There is nothing he has said that can later be taken as a lie or sneaky. His actions say to me that he is very interested in the NBA at some point. That may be this year, next year, 5 years from now, or never.

I agree with SAE. I'd like to know what is taking so long. Warde has shown a penchant for delay and inaction. My perception is that that delay and inaction resulted in Louisville and not UConn getting Maryland's spot in the ACC. I'm concerned that further delay and inaction now is going to lead to Coach Ollie leaving. If there is something that proves my perception to be wrong.....I'd love to see it.

I think this is a fair cop. He waited way too long to can Pasqualoni and it cost us two years on the FB side.

Don't be so sensible. We are probably reading people who have no concrete knowledge of negotiating a contract. You and I and most of the others here know that Warde is not even in the front seat here- it's Ollie and the (fictive)NBA team(s): 1) we can't just match some fictive offer-- remember we are a public institution with public monies and responsibilities; 2) the same people who screaming that we should give him the title to the house are the same ones who will be hanging Warde tomorrow if (God forbid) we have a 50 - 50 seasons. Let me hurry and say a 50 - 50 season without ring because we did have a sort of 50 - 50 season, but we got a ring at the end.

While they are in negotiations I can't blame either side for being coy and playing it close to the vest; and I'll reserve judgment until I see their acts.

In the meantime, my spidey sense is still that KO definitely wants to stay here for the near and medium terms, and maybe even for the long haul. But he is being wise and taking his time to understand the market for his services and what his options are so he can better value them both now and in the future.

I mean, no matter how loyal and true the guy is, he would be foolish not to understand that his market value right now may well be the best it ever gets, at least in terms of how well he has performed against expectations up to this point and what the fair value of that gap is, all things considered.

As I've said before, no matter what the strategy, I don't think it would kill UConn for Warde to put out a statement that at least gives a status and some encouragement. Even a tweet, like KO did when the pressure of the Lakers rumors mounted, would probably go a long way to help create the impression that he's doing every thing he can to get this done asap.

I have to imagine that, for a guy who has been scraping to keep a job for so long, being courted must be pretty nice.
