Single coverage in man-to-man likely will not work, unless the defender is a superior athlete with size--like Chiney, for example.

Yeah, UA-LR's coach didn't do his kids any favors by going man-to-man against EDD. I suspect he figrued his athletes weren't much better, if at all, than the rest of UD, so best to try contain everyone else, let EDD get hers, and hope for the best. Better teams will have confidence in their ability to double EDD and recover on UD's outside shooters. Tennesee and Baylor certainly have the athletes to do this. Doubtful about Kansas.

They struggled against Drexel's zone twice. Overmatched teams should play zone. EDD shot 5-8 on threes yesterday, but she seems to be more of an inside player. I've seen them 4 times and I think Elena took 3-5 treys per game. That said, you don't want to let her square up and step into the shot from anywhere within 25'.

The announcers were stunned UA-LR didn't try a box and one or anything but straight up man-to-man.

That is one reason why a game between UDel and TN will be interesting with most probably Glory J. (who is quick and 6-3) guarding EDD...Glory is very (understatement) physical with a lot of elbow usage so it will be interesting to see how EDD responds

Glory may or may not be guarded by EDD and if not those elbows are a lot less of a threat.

I hadn't watched any EDD games in college until this NCAA and I have to say I was impressed. The announcers kept saying 'effortless' and that certainly applied. Her pull-up is a thing of beauty.
I was also a little depressed on two fronts:
1. I would have loved to see what Uconn could have been with her playing here four years. I perfectly understand why she left and defend her decision, and I have loved what Uconn has done without her, but ...
2. I would really like to see what she could do on a really good college team. Delaware has some nice complementary players and they play a nice game, but ... put her on a team with three or more high school AA kids and a really good coach ... I would compare this to watching Maya or BG play for Seton Hall - she would put them on the map, but you wouldn't get to really see what they could do.

Or DT playing for UCLA...they all (MAYA, DT and now EDD) whould score a lot of points but would get no NC....

I am editng to include Please read Voelpel's Article T/Y pap49 I know ther have been some stories on TV on EDD ,one I think is on Bryant Gumbel's show on HBO, I hear another one is somewhere lol I am sure some one will give details on that if anyone reads this post:)
Watching EDD did have me thinking again "What If" I do understand completely why she went home and went to Delaware! For those who have posted about EDD and defending her and if she was playing with us! She is really good at utilizing teammates,or just overcoming the defenses. If she was playing with us! I have said for years we would be going for our 4th straight NC!! God knows what all of the records we have had would be? 90 straight PLUS
Her story is a great one. God Bless her sister and her family! We need to understand what it is like to be in the situation she is in. I am sure that it came up when she was being recruited and after she verballed and signed to come to UCONN! She thought she was ready to make that huge step for her. When she actually came to school, what was subconscious really came to the fore front! This is an extraordinary story. One that will eventually be a Lifetime movie. The reality is her story is unique and one has to be in her shoes to really understand! I understand being a full time caregiver/caretaker for my wife who has ALS! Those who are in these life situations with a loved one,can empathize how profound it is on a daily basis, In retrospect,we can see that this was not your ordinary recruitment. I would think that Geno and CD hoped and felt that EDD was ready to take that huge life changing step. She was not and it has been an ongoing process for her to have gotten to this point almost 4 years later. It was the right decision for her. Did it have an impact on so many aspects of UCONN Womens Basketball? Absolutely Yes. I will not go into that since just about everyone knows this.
Where we are 4 years later, watching her 4 years later! She is an incredible player to watch! She is an UNIQUE player with tremdous skills. She is an All American and would have been wherever she played. The comments that others have made in this thread and so many other threads about the "WHAT IF" she had stayed would have to include what her emotional state would have been. Knowing all that I do know, being a Clinical Psychotherapist, living what life has presented my wife and myself, I do believe she made the right decision and I can see a joy a maturity,a sense of peace that was not there for her 4 years ago. She is staying at Del for another year which is not surprising. She will be faced
with some huge decisions next year! I can speculate what aspects may very well come up. I will save that for another time!
Right now,I am so happy to be watching the process and the journey she is on:)
As a player she really is incredible and has skills that make her worthy of being mentioned along with Griner for the Best Player. She probably will not get it, due to the decision to play at Delaware which is a Mid Major School compared to a Conn or a Baylor! What is most important is that she is happy and at peace!! Everyone is lucky to be getting an opportunity to see
a STAR playing! The opportunity to be hearing this incredible story! Hopefully people having the opportunity to know some thing about what many families go through. I hope Deleware continues to win and her story continues to get the attention it is getting.
As far as getting to see her on a team with Elite Players, that is available when she plays, for now on USA Teams! This summer when she did she was the STAR. Playing at Delawre we need to remember to enjoy what she is doing, that she is HAPPY,that her sister,Family,EDD continue to live with what is:)
GOD BLESS EVERYONE IN THESE SITUATIONS IWISH IT NO ONE, BUT IT IS REMARKABLE TO GO THROUGH
GO HUSKIES TONIGHT IF YOU CANNOT GET IT ON YOUR TV IT IS ON YOUR COMPUTEER ON ESPN3

Try something other than the statue defense. I saw a lot of open space between he and the "defeders", a lot of standing around after she caught the ball and "defenders"hands were down at the waist. Still, she is quit a player.
