2024 Recruiting: Vlad Goldin

If Porpagatu isn’t the name of the villain in the new Ghostbusters movie, he should be.

My biggest issue with him is that he seems to take possessions off. Our coach would break him of that habit awfully quick.

This makes soooo much more sense. I’m sure the staff thinks they can fix whatever defensive mistakes he made last season. You can’t teach size and especially touch at that size. Think he has 2 years remaining as well.
I think he has 1 year left. He's already played 4 years and gets 1 more year for the Covid year (his freshman year).

Goldin entered the portal as a grad transfer so he has one season left.

Gotta think Tom has done his due diligence there. I noticed the huge drop off (drop up?) in DRTG this year--he was very solid beforehand.

Only other thing I would like to see a bit more detail on is his passing. The actual number per-40 isn't solid, but it could be the way they used him at FAU.
Agreed. And not to paint with such a broad brush, but we have seen nearly every player in our system improve defensively (sometimes greatly) within the given athletic year. I think I'd rather have someone come to uconn lacking more on D than O, if there had to be an area of deficiency.

Seen him listed as a junior in multiple places, but this makes more sense.

Vs 9 high major oppoents the last 2 years:

24 MPG

13.0 PPG
6.1 RPG
0.7 APG

1.4 TO
2.0 BLK
0.6 STL

2.7 PF

68% FG (8 attempts per)
70% FT (3.3 attempts per)
Pretty similar to DC on points and rebounds actually. Surprised he only played 24 minutes per game though.

Happy Friday!

Goldin runs the floor excellently for a 7'1 240 big. He's in excellent shape and has a great motor.

I also love that his production and efficiency has improved in each and every season in college basketball, which is especially impressive as FAU's schedule has gotten tougher and tougher from the start of his sophomore season to the end of his senior year.

Just a really good, all-around big. I'm game.
And he has experience in high pressure, high stakes games as evidenced this year and moreso last year on Florida Atlantic's run to the Final Four and being one buzzer beating shot from playing UConn in the championship game last year.

I can go with that. Maybe it should be the official name of the Marshmallow Man.

Some sites list covid seniors as juniors. It's a mess.

FAU kind of had a similar 1-2 center punch thing. Rosado was their stronger, wider, short roll playmaker center.

Yes, coaching and surrounding cast.

would love this, Golden is solid, plug and play. Haven’t heard anything on my favorite player from their team, Alijah Martin. Anyone hear anything on him?

The only negative number that jumps out to me is a very low assist total.

Clingan's passing is an important facet of our offense and I hope Goldin never getting assists is more a function of the FAU offense than it is poor passing skills.

From what I saw of FAU, they were an ISO team, not great for anyone’s assist totals.

If he comes here, I expect a lot of references to "Vladimir Golden" even though his name is "Vladislav Goldin"
Probably, but they're probably better than the references to Vince Goldman that will also happen.
