I don't think this is OT....I watched the Villanova vs. W. Va game tonight. Villanova positively dismantled West Virginia (ranked #25, for what it's worth), 81-59. This was the kind of beatdown that UConn usually puts on Villanova. Now, to hear the (admittedly homer) announcers, West Virginia has a darn good team and they were shocked, shocked, I tell you, when Villanova came out and did this well.

This may mean nothing except that tonight, one team was better than another, but the Villanova players showed up big-time against what was billed as a decent team. Maybe the Big East won't be so awful this year after all.

Villanova guy here, pleased to hear that

I watched the game too. For the first half, it was a game of spurts with Nova going up by around 17 in the second quarter. Then they went cold for over 3 minutes and WVU got it down to 9. By halftime, the gap 11. WVU was playing some good defense but Bascoe and a couple other Wildcats were making their shots.
In the second half, different game. The Mountaineer defense didn't seem as intense, they getting as many shots down low, got into foul trouble and Nova kept playing good on offense and kept pulling away.
And I agree that the homer announcers were very honest about how the game was going and kept covering the action. They even interviewed Jasmine Bascoe after the game.
I enjoyed watching this non UConn game on ESPN+.

I also watched last night’s game. The difference in execution between Nova & WV was significant, particularly when you consider that the Wildcats were playing without their veteran center, Kylee Watson, who was in a walking boot. Denise Dillon is one of the very best young coaches in the country. Hopefully, Nova can hold onto her for many years to come.

I didn't know that Watson was injured. How long is she expected to be out of action?

Watson sustained an ACL tear in March 2024 before transferring from Notre Dame to Villanova in April 2025. This could be something completely separate from the ACL or perhaps related. Certainly hope this is not achilles related.

Don’t know. She has played in 4 Villanova games this season and was wearing a walking boot last night. That’s all I got.
