I think everyone has learned that it is better to play us very tight (including getting away with fouls.....Big East you know). Also, watching Villanova it looked like I was watching our offense without the our tight play on them. I liked the way Villanova hustled every minute of the game. Things have changed there. As for us, we just seem to find a way to win. Gritty will help you get wins. At times Tarris looks like he's sleep walking. Then he spins out with a burst of speed to the hoop. Jayden and Jaylin not showing up in the stats but their fresh presence and length makes a nice difference down the stretch. Silas, Alex and Solo tough down the stretch. Good win and the crowd sounded pretty loud. Whew!

The offense was not running smoothly when he was on the floor. Not saying that was Mullins fault, just that he is not essential to running offense. But hopefully he is not out long and we don't have to test that theory.

100% - whether Solo is making or missing, he has a much better feel for running through the sets and getting looks.

Question on our last possession in regulation - who should have the ball in their hands? We went to AK, which was not the right move. Silas?

Considering they just consistently failed to execute and make plays pretty much all game, it was nice to see them make several clutch plays on both ends in OT. This was a good team we played, but for a home game they just have to play better.

That was my initial thought too but then i realized Ball scored his first 13 points with Mullins on the floor or available. So it seems they can coexist.

He’s our most talented scorer. Most of his minutes will be absorbed by a mix of Stewart and Ross, both of whom have their roles, but neither of whom are particularly adept scorers in the halfcourt. If today snapped Solo out of his slump, that would be a huge boost while Braylon is out.
 
I have a feeling that this post will not be well received. But I owe it to all to be honest and true to how I am feeling. I no longer feel that this team is NCAA title worthy. We are certainly stout defensively, and our offensive sets safeguards us when we go cold, like today when we could not make bunnies from 3 feet. And I am aware that we are not always going to be hot from 3. But no team can win a title missing these many FTs per game. And after 3 months, this is who we are folks. Sucks because we are so solid elsewhere. If I am going to catch s—- for that take, I ask simply this: Name the team that went on to become champs in April that was a poor free throw shooting team. Answer that and I will retract my take.
The rebounds is another thing altogether. I alluded to this after the Georgetown game. Rebounding is about effort. About consistency. And seeing guards out-hustle our guards for lose balls just pisses me off badly. And this is a pattern now; this is not the first game this happens.
And better news, we have a Solo sighting. Without him we lose by 20. Great game by him.

You clearly weren't around for UConn's 2004 championship team. That team shot 62% from the ft line for the season, our point guard Taliek Brown shot 55% from the line for the season.
 
By the way, prayers to Mullins for a quick recovery. I will say this: i have no godly idea who we (people 50 and older) ever made it to adulthood. I remember when bike helmets had not been invented. Cars did not have seatbelts. And for those of us who played sports, getting your bell rung was a weekly occurrence. I don’t know what is happening to the human body, but this generation seems different. Like I said, don’t know how we made it to adulthood. But praying for this kid because he is a kid every parent would be proud of. Heal fast bud!

I think OOC there is more room and the game is less physical so he could dribble around forever and eventually find someone open. Now the game is tighter and more physical and he doesn’t have the room to dribble forever and find someone open. He hasn’t really run Hurley’s offense all season and now with a tighter, more physical game it’s not working for him.

That's what I thought initially too, but after seeing the replay in slow motion, Brennan went up and grabbed the ball on the 4th Reed foul, while Reed was back peddling and flailing his arms hitting Brennan. Something tells me if it was the other way around UConn fans would not be criticizing. Reed just didn't play a smart game. It is on him.
 
Seemed a little like the West (left) side from TV cam was a tighter rim...so many of our first half shots were in and out. 2nd half we saw that some with Nova while the East side in the 2nd half we shot much better. Dunno if anything to it, but from a TV read it seemed that way.

Also, the foul against Mullins on the loose ball - he was directly ahead of the Nova player who used their left (off hand) to clock him with an elbow shiver to the face. Note the ball was on the other side and IMHO that was definitely intentional.

62%. 71%. 72%. Those are the FT stats the last three games. 77% is an improvement, but is it good???? UNLV, Kansas and Kentucky were pummeling teams my brother. We are playing everyone close. I don’t need to tell you that in close games, FT’s are key. ‘And shooting in the low 70’s is not championship worthy. Against Georgetown we missed 7 in the last minute. Today we missed a bunch of one and one’s.

Have you heard of CTE? It is a horrible disease. NFL players are literally killing themselves due to repeated head trauma. It is fair to question this generation whether they are as tough as the old days, but I would rather be smart than tough. Sports are only a short season of life. Hope they are cautious with Mullins and that he comes back healthy.

I remember that team. Loved that team. If your stat is correct, are you telling me that this stat disproves my point that title contenders tend to be good FT shooting teams?

The refs were horrendous.

Two of the fouls called on Reed should have been on Brennan. There were two additional fouls on Brennan (including a moving screen on the three very late in regulation) that were not called.

We got the W and showed a tremendous amount of fortitude. Hope Mullins doesn't miss any time.

That screen by Brennan on Karaban near the end of regulation was awful. Clearly held and grabbed his jersey. One of the more glaring misses by this crew, as well as several missed over the back calls, embarrassing day for the refs.
