Villanova Post Game Thread

This group doesn't instill a lot of confidence visually - the offense at this point in the season is supremely clunky. I saw one set where 5 guys were in the lane in OT. The spacing and rotations, actions seem non existent at times. I honestly don't know what to think. We have some quality wins early, but this is not a team that looks like a NC, at all. Does it have more to to do peak, or is his what it is, that is the question.
Not every team can be Michigan,.....

Or Arizona,.......

Or whoever is the current flavor of the month.

Quad 1 gut-check win. Nova is a Tournament team that will be a tough out with their three point shooters. Nice to see Solo back. Silas is a closer. AK showing some leadership in second half/OT. Hustle player of the game for me. Ross-disruptive and showing alot of effort. Next.

Stay safe Yarders for the next 72 hrs or so.

This is a good win. Villanova is a good, solid tourney team.

Silas is incredible on defense and had the play of the game with the strip, dive, assist to Reed. Just such a key piece to our NC hopes.

If this ugly game gets Solo going, then I will take it 100/100 times. Pulling the ball out late was great to see, but just glad he got some confidence. Now we need two in a row.

We left 8 points from laypus in the first half alone. It's pure torture.

Thought we gace it away when Ross missed two FTs and then Reed shuffled. These guys just know how to grind these things out.

Not a high IQ game from Reed. What bothered me the most is when you see your guard getting backed down from the 3pt line, you should be preparing yourself to provide help there.

Anyway, another uneven game where the whole team wasn't firing at the same time, and hopefully Braylon is Ok.
I think what gets Solo going is not sharing the floor with Mullins and knowing he's the guy. That's a hard role to share. Let's not forget that our wins against BYU, Illinois and Florida were all without Braylon. Those are wins over the best teams we've played. Braylon was huge in the Kansas win.

These gutty wins are very important in the long run. Would also like to see us play offense that’s not offensive. And if the bench could give us some production that would nice as well. Miss the days of having a guy come off the bench and give you some instant offense.

Our bench wasn’t great again today but I do think that our depth wears other teams down.

If our identity is toughness, resilience, and winning, I’ll take it. Though I miss pretty offense.

Yeah sorry, they looked amazing. Clicking on all cylinders. Another effortless win. Offense looked like a Ferrari. Let me know if that helps.

Nova a good team, but that was a home game after a number of close wins against bad teams. GTwon beat PC at PC today. NC caliber teams have a close win from time to time, but they don't eek out a series of games against lesser competition.

Nova solid but not a second weekend team.

Hurley runs a beautiful offense. Our players need to start executing it. They did when it counted.

An ugly game always looks pretty in the W/L column.

Jayden Ross was huge on the defense end. That's why Hurley had him in at the end.

What do you think it is? Are they just not running it? I feel like there is a lot more iso ball this year.

Solo had 13 of his 24 points before Braylon left with his concussion. I know this is your new narrative but Solo was playing great today before the injury happened

Just stop. NC teams can actually lose winnable games sometimes, or did you miss 2023.

Yes, I know, “The field was weak that year!”

You overreact to everything. It’s exhausting

Gotta credit Hurley for this team never quitting even when things aren’t going their way. We used to complain Hurley couldn’t win these type of games.

Smith is unplayable, try AM or Furphy, it’s hard to believe they’d be worse. Every time Demary comes out the other team goes on a run, we won’t win a championship if that continues. That, or Smith needs to figure it out by March.

There’s def more iso ball but I can’t believe it’s by design. I haven’t heard a good explanation for why the offense doesn’t even resemble what we were running to perfection in 23-24. #35 in KP.

Shooting. Hurley can get guys lay ups. They have to make lay ups.

Hurley can get guys open threes. They have to make open threes.

Our offensive needs to convert open shoots on a more consistent basis. If they did we would have been up by 8 or ten after the first half. It would also take a little pressure off our defense.

It's honestly pretty remarkable we still just have the 1 loss to #1 with two starters out. We've been living on the edge and we've been asleep for large portions of the past 4 games and the offense is a mess...

There's something to be said about finding ways to win when so much is going wrong and this was an extremely important win. Nova is tough and our schedule gets a lot tougher especially with Braylon possibly missing some time. This was a 1 seed win.

We all know Solo's shooting struggles but so many things are out of sorts lately. AK was amazing late in the game but he can't be taking off the first 32 minutes like we're seeing. The bench was so good in our out of conference but they're giving us very little offensively lately, poor Malachi is all out of sorts. Jayden got that huge block and had some other very good defensive possessions but they all have to play better. The offense isn't nearly good enough lately, we're missing layups like crazy and we aren't controlling the glass like we should.

The good, we always play great defense and we find ways to win when it seems like nothing is going right for us. Defense travels and we have that clutch factor, we always think we'll win. Solo hit big shots and he backed it out late in overtime which eventually set up Silas for the driving layup. In the past Solo would've put his head down and gone straight to the rim and it would've gone very badly. That was a smart veteran move by him and the play of the game, IMO.

Nova is very good, Willard is going to have that thing humming soon.

Extraordinary D on that last possession by Ross and Silas. Absolutely abysmal offensive performance over the last 4-8 games by our bench. Mali is lost. Give his minutes to Millender. I’m not joking. Stewie comes in and immediately has a great tip in, but a stupid missed block out and then push at the end of the game? Ross is just a zero offensively. Reibe is at least really good but our team cannot win a ship with 6 players contributing.
Frustrating and Willard continues to be a dirtbag, but I guess a win is a win

Alex Karaban is an all time great Husky, and I’d like to see him in the Huskies of Honor with his jersey in the rafters at Gampel. I don’t think the guy was 100% healthy last year. We are very lucky to have him in this program.

That’s a small part of it. We missed some layups but on the season Solo has been the only guy struggling with his shot and he was on fire today. The offense is just not creating all the easy scoring ops that it used to.
