He's clearly a 14 and 10 guy with a couple of blocks if he got 27 minutes per game and the coach designed some things to get him the ball on the block.
We know the offense works. Have Hurley and co not proven that? This group of players are executing it poorly, especially recently

Stewart with 7 minutes is criminal. He needs to get more minutes.
Did you watch the first half? If you did, it would be easy to say he deserves less. This is multiple games now he has turned the ball over almost unforced and didn’t even bother running back. But he redeemed himself. Stewie has tremendous upside. I do think the staff should have done a better job w him to date, but a lot of it is on him. All I know is I really hope he seees it through.

Danny is Danny. Not a huge deal if Samson starts and he does some good things. But Tarris should almost always play more minutes.
I hate it - I have always felt what Tarris needs is consistency and I like setting a tone of toughness from the tap. Samson is firmly a bench 5, change of pace guy, not the other way around.

Yes, but he has to cut down on the stupid fouls. There were two non-calls on Tarris from the refs that would have had him at 4 PFs midway through the second half. One where he contested a three-point shooter, and another where he just reached in at the arc. He can't stay on the floor for 27 minutes a game if he's going to be a foul machine.

I did but the whole team played poorly in the first half. He played great D in the second half and he is clearly the most athletic wing we have. In comparison I have seen nothing from Ross to even warrant 2 minutes. He is clearly playing a level above his skillset. I don't feel that way about Stewart. He just needs more confidence and able to play through his mistakes.

I agree. But I do t think it’s a huge deal who starts if Tarris gets more minutes. But Tarris has struggled in many games. Tonight was an ideal matchup. He is ideally a power 4. He plays out of position on this team. Kid is a beast and I am a huge fan. Loved him last year at Michigan. Love him now.

When down 14 in the 2nd half, I Began to worry about the players morale. But they fought back for an edge of my seat moment. Everyone needs to accept that the talent is not like it was the last 2 years. We are not going to blow out teams. We are going to have to scratch and claw. Congrats men. Can't wait for the game at the garden. AKA storrs south

I agree. Stewie always shows glimpses of huge upside and his second half was excellent. His first half was one of the worst.

I want to give some props to Nowell today. Nothing in the stat sheet and his D wasn't great when playing Poplar but he handled the Villanova pressure well and didn't turn the ball over. He gave Diarra a good spell on the bench to get ready for the run. He needs to be the backup PG the rest of the season and let him play through his mistakes. Have to think about this year and next. Mahaney is giving us next to nothing(Still surprised how bad of recruiting mistake he was).

Wow. I thought it was over … what a gritty comeback win. Huge. Ended it on a 29-6 run.
With 11:58 left in the game the score was 53-39 and ESPN gave Nova a 94% chance to win the game. Nova didn't score for the next 6+ minutes.

What has happened to the beautiful offense from earlier in the season? Diarra didn't look hobbled tonight. His assists are way down recently, probably mostly due to the knee issue. Is that the biggest reason for the offensive lull?

So is Hassan. And Alex is the consummate role guy. Turns out, the roster was built poorly and at best we can go 7 deep. That makes things difficult.

Season was on the line and Tarris and Liam said we're not going out like this.

Earth to Danny, you have Tarris Reed on your team and he's really big, really good at scoring down low, and really good at rebounding.
Sometimes that is true, other times not so much

On a separate note, Nowell played 4 anti climatic minutes. Not much to make out of that.

Mahaney looked Timberlakey in his 3 minutes. Gosh he is shattered mess at this point. Ross followed suit.

On Stewie - let’s not let the comeback endorphins overcome us. He’s in, he’s out. He makes a great play then bounces one off his knee. Hes had many many opportunities to play big minutes with Liam out, and didn’t do much.

For the first time in months, he got to stay out there a few minutes and he got comfortable. It was nice to see. I hope we keep seeing him and build him up a bit.

We start two guys who are extremely limited all the time and one who has been extremely limited for the last month. That leaves 2 weapons, one of whom has been a gamer coming back from injury but isn’t all the way back with his shooting. Diarra might have had more assists if guys were hitting 3s, but since he’s not much of a threat himself, he can’t draw the defenses to him all that much. Teams don’t fear him.

No matter what you run, it’s just too easy if defenses can load up on 1 or 2 guys and help off everyone else. You can ignore the screener, or the guy with the ball, or the guy flashing to the wing if they aren’t threats.

I disagree here. He was able to handle the offense and not turn the ball over against a Villanova defense that was in our face. It was key to giving Diarra some rest for the final run. I look at it progress and glad to see him out there in the 2nd half instead of Mahaney who is what he is as a Jr.

I suppose - he picked up his dribble once that lead to freneticism. The rest was nice but didn’t see much that said, now that guy is our PG of the future.

And hopefully it turns out to propell them into some important wins next, and they ride that wave into March.
Yeah we have to carry this win's momentum into the St. John's game or this will not be a turning point in our season. Also, for Hurley to put him in the game at that time with us down big in a must win game shows he might have some trust in him.

In 2011 TO started in the tournament
In 2014 Nolan Started
Neither of those guys were number 1 in minutes . TO wasn’t even close . I think they started to prevent early 5 foul trouble or for superstitious reasons .
