Here's the thing Clothbreath....The A-10 is rated 7th. This means 2-4 teams make the big dance. With VCU, Butler & George Mason coming in it will be much tougher for UMess to make it. That's not necessarily ripping UMess. Just the fact you guys will have a much tougher time making the big dance, and the hope you committ Hari Khari!!!
Hell, if UMess won the NC (and, as we all know, that ain't happening) I would still suggest that you committ Hari Khari!!!
UConn, to your delight, will take a hit for next year. I wouldn't bet against UConn for 2013 and beyond. Last year we were celebrating. That wasn't so long ago. Thus, whatever pain that comes over the next year will be eased by the recent memory of our 3rd NC over the past 13 years. What do you have???
And how many times have we heard about the demise of UConn? 1990 was a fluke, Calhoun couldn't win the big game and the whole Kirk King and Ricky Moore incident was going to sink us forever! That didn't happen and we bounced back. Hell, we bounced all the way from a crappy showing in the NIT to a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in 1999. Then we heard that 1999 was a fluke. Also, we heard that Calhoun was going to leave UConn and UConn would collapse back to where it was before our fluke of a run. We ended up in the NIT again and it was proof that these morons were right. But then Calhoun and UConn bounced back and won ANOTHER National Championship in 2004. Again, Calhoun was going to leave. Again we ended up in the NIT. Calhoun didn't leave. But he was finished...the game had passed him by. But, AGAIN, UConn bounced back and made it to the Final Four in 2009. But then the Miles incident was dug up by a umess grad. Surely UConn and Calhoun were finished THIS time. And, again we had a bad season. Again, the morons thought this was proof that they were right. And, AGAIN, UConn and Calhoun bounced back and won a THIRD National Championship. But here we are again, UConn is facing a major rebuilding year due to a bogus APR penalty. And, AGAIN, the morons are telling us how bad this is and how it is different. This time, this really is the end of the UConn program and Calhoun. Sure, we have heard THAT ONE before.............
First of all, Calhoun has to retire soon. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Calhoun will be "done" some day. Maybe that day is now. Uass fans will celebrate what was inevitable as if we were all too stupid to realize it all along and are devastated by it. Idiots!
Second of all, Calhoun's success was MASSIVE and over a VERY LONG PERIOD OF TIME. He won the big game THREE times, or four if you count making the final four as big. And he did it over TWENTY SIX years at UConn. What these morons don't realize is that he DID create a major program which is now one of the marquee names in college basketball. Other coaches see it as a historically significant place to coach. They see the fan support, the support from the state and the support from the administration. They know it is a place where a great coach can accomplish great things. Even if we have a bad hire or two, the reputation and status will linger and we will eventually get another great coach and return to the top of the mountain. And, by the way, coaches tend to fall in love with that hell hole called Storrs and stick around for their entire career, even when "better" opportunities present themselves. Can't say that about wonderful Amherst.
Third, even if UConn stumbles and struggles for several years, we will still have the great memories supplied by our HALL OF FAME coach, JIM CALHOUN!!!! We already HAVE something umess fans will NEVER have. All they have is hope that the squid will visit Amherst so they can act like a bunch of pre-pubescent girls at a Bieber concert when he walks down the street to a pizza place for dinner.
