I noticed a bunch of sawdust piles on my stored firewood under my deck.

I'm guessing rodents. We don't have any mice, but I'm certain they're out there.

Any ideas what it might be and how to minimize damage to my firewood?

Be careful, could be bees or wasps. They drill into would and live there. It happened on my deck. I saw sawdust and sure enough it was a family of wasps.

I wouldn't do anything until you establish what you have there. You'll need to target your response. But I'd get right to it. Soon you could look out the door and find out your deck is gone.

I took my leaf blower to it before I posted this.

Luckily no wasps or bees. I moved the rack away from the house and blew all of the saw dust away, but this is still a mystery.

Assuming a mouse or squirrel. Frustrated

Also, I know about a 1/2 dozen people who now swear by this for back yard fly control. Probably would work on wasps, hornets or bees.

Gonna nerd out but how small is the sawdust?

If it's really fine dust, it's bugs or wasps/bees.

If it is more chewed up could be rodents.

Regardless move that wood away from the house.

It's not fine, chewed. I moved the rack away from the house, but I have to find a permanent home for it.

Surprisingly, the 10 to 12 logs in the back of my yard, from the 3 trees I took down have not been touched by the rodents.

I need to rent a log splitter
 
I work on old homes and have to analyze dust piles all the time. I can usually tell what caused what for damage by the dust.

Rodents are very unlikely to create dust in wood pile. When they gnaw it is to gain access. Usually making a small hole larger. They don’t eat wood or use it for nesting material.

Boring bees are possible but they tend to get into soft woods. Carpenter ants are the most likely. They excavate green wood because it has enough water content to support a colony.

With 2 asthmatic children, I didn’t care for wood burning in our neighborhood. It was bad for air quality.

You could look up someone who does "dump runs" and just cart that wood away. Wood that's not going to be burned this winter (or last winter) will sooner or later become home or food for something living. That's nature. In the forest it just rots away by all kinds of parasites.

It's a woodchuck. How much would did he chuck? People want to know.
