Elite group of players but an odd selection for that particular award IMO. I’d consider Williams to be more of an SG and Strong and Pierre to be more PFs but maybe I’m mistaken.Where the SEC voters failed to recognize her, national voters haven't. Pierre is a finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award, along with Sarah Strong, Sonia Citron, Madison Booker and Mikayla Williams.
Honestly, I don't know either. I had made the same comment to a friend with respect to Citron as she's a guard to me. However, players like Bridget Carleton and Ashely Joens have won this award. Maybe this award category offers some flexibility with respect to who is considered for nomination?Elite group of players but an odd selection for that particular award IMO. I know some of this stuff becomes repetitive, but for me this thread has become something of an official repository for some of the highlights and points of interest in the program, so when there is a milestone like this, I want to document it. Hopefully, it won't become irritating to others.
I appreciate the updates. Vanderbilt is my alma mater…when I was there, they were in the top 20. I’ve tried to watch a few games this year. Really impressed with the job Shea is doing.I know some of this stuff becomes repetitive, but for me this thread has become something of an official repository for some of the highlights and points of interest in the program, so when there is a milestone like this, I want to document it. Well, I am not sure I completely agree on your optimistic statement as the AP voters just ignored her completely. Khamil has had a great year that warranted AA consideration. The fact the SEC was completely ignorant in their acknowledgement is truly egregious and did affect the national AP voters. Khamil was 7th in the country in Efficiency and 14th in WinShares. The only SEC player who ranked better was Morrow.Where the SEC voters failed to recognize her, national voters haven't. I see where you're coming from, but being a Cheryl Miller finalist is still something. I am just saddened by this lack of respect but at least she's a sophomore and has a NCAAT games to show the audience what she can do.
I think one reason (not an excuse) for her lack of recognition is that she kind of came out of nowhere this year. Nothing in her first year suggested that she would get any consideration for post season honors. I can't think of anyone offhand that had more of a quantum leap from one year to the next.Well, I am not sure I completely agree on your optimistic statement as the AP voters just ignored her completely. Khamil actually started to garner some notoriety in the second half of last season. During the first half, she wasn't even starting, but eventually she just forced her way into the starting lineup and helped carry the team to the NCAA tourney. Announcers and media members often talked about her potential, and Shea's constant assessment was that Khamil had no idea yet how good she was or could be.I think one reason (not an excuse) for her lack of recognition is that she kind of came out of nowhere this year. There might have been some other surprises, but I think in general terms most postseason award winners were also in the preseason discussion and well known before the first game was played. Someone who comes out of the blue is at a definite disadvantage until they get more major exposure.

Coach Ralph's media gathering at the NCAA venue in Durham. She's very good in these settings.
Coach Ralph's Oregon post-game remarks. She brought Jordyn Oliver with her, and if you have an extra couple of minutes, I highly recommend listening to her remarks about Shea and the program.
