Hopefully it's okay to have one thread for all the games going on. First game is going, I was surprised Gonzaga is hanging in with Notre Dame so far. Was 31-22 in Q2 when I looked a few minutes ago.

Arike...1-7. ND up 11 at half. Shepard 13 & 9. Jackie Young has been very good (triple double watch). Brianna Turner not the same player she was. They are without the PGs but this team is very beatable. Much more than UConn was last year IMO.

Zykera Rice leading GU w/ 10 points 6 boards 3 steals. She's immediately recognizable by her fabulously bright blue hair.

ND only wins by 16. Arike shoots 12 times in he 2nd half. Ends up with 21 points on 19 shots. This will be their Achilles heel. Mark my words.

I'm not a huge Ogunbowale fan. She hit the game winners in the semi final and Championship game last year, but she missed a bunch of shots prior to hitting the big one. Too inconsistent for my taste.

Massey ranks Gonzaga 35. Massey's projection was 81-64 and the actual score was 81-65.

And ND was without both point guards. Seems fine all things considered. I was happy to see that Gilbert played quality minutes today.

I miss this summer's respite from "Ogunbowale shoots too much" discourse. This is her role on the team, especially with Mabrey not there as another offensive creator.

That Massey predication is extremely impressive

I just expect a number 1 team like them with 4 AA candidates to blow teams out. No one outside the top 8, let alone top 35 should be able to hang in that close. It's not men's basketball. We all know the drop in talent after the top 6 teams.

The Drake-Rutgers game has been interesting. Rutgers led by double digits in the first half but Drake has stormed back, now holding a 7-point lead with 2 minutes to play.

Edit to add: Drake completes the comeback, from 10 down at half they outscored Rutgers 40-15 in the second half. Becca Hittner led them with 23 points. Drake will play Notre Dame tomorrow.

Rutgers led 20-6 after Q1 and 44-29 at halftime. Tale of 2 halves.

Geno has allowed "shooter"s to keep shooting knowing they will eventually start dropping and it is better to work out the wrinkles as the season begins. Arike may have been the luckiest girl in WCBB last April; remember that shot would have been nothing if Young had not gotten 32 the real ND hero got lost in the smoke..

We UConn supporters tend to over magnify our teams problems then project problems onto other teams, especially ND. All fans no matter team tend to forget that the season is early and the teams we see now are not the ones we'll see come Dancin' Time. Still, it's not surprising that early on not very good teams play out of there minds against the defending national champs. UConn is used to it. ND hopefully will grow used to it too.

South Carolina crushed E. Tennessee St. 101-55. Oregon St. has their hands full w/ WKU early in Q2, up 27-24. Was not expecting that.

Hey I'm a Kelsey Plum fan. I'm okay with a player shooting a lot, just don't miss too many of them.

OSU-WKU was tied at 19 after Q1. OSU up 41-31 at halftime. Only shooting 2-8 behind the arc. Slocum has 12, McWilliams 10, Pivec 8 and Grymek 7.

I expected them to come out fired up after getting crushed at home by Maryland. We had a really good shooting night tonight.

It's the OSU score I was not expecting. Didn't really think SC would struggle w/ ETSU.

There is a difference between a shooter continuing to shoot to get in rhythm and just shooting too much. A player needs to recognize when they are just continuing to shoot within their offensive role and when their misses are taking their teams out of games. There is also a difference between times when a team needs someone to created a shot with the shot clock running down and a player just continuing to shoot and miss consistency with still time on the clock.

Beavs just can't hit the 3 today. 2-14. Hopefully this will be their worst shooting performance of the year. Had stretched the lead to 15 or 17, but WKU got it back down to 10. Now 58-47 after 3Q. I don't know anything about WKU but they have 2 players tied for a game high 15. For OSU Slocum has 14, Pivec 13 and McWilliams stuck at 10.

WKU cut it to 8 to start Q4, then McWilliams sez I got this. Looks like she scored 7 straight, Beavs up 15 now.

Jeez, McWilliams is 3-4 behind the arc, the rest of the team is 0-12. That isn't going to cut it against SC.

69-57, about 3 minutes left. Ugly. 11-10 in Q4. Beavs are 3-18 from 3.

.-.
74-60 final. Pivec and Slocum w/ 18, McWilliams w/ 17. Nobody else did much scoring. Only 10 assists. 4-20 behind the arc. Get that out of your system and better play a whole lot better moving forward in Vancouver.

I would like to see UCONN in this tourney possibly in the future. Its close to home for Hailey Van Lith (sorta).....

It really isn't. Probably around 4 1/2 hours by car. Same amount of driving time would just about get you to Montana if you went the opposite direction from Cashmere.

Not sure if this is a one off or if it's going to be an annual thing.

Without a doubt what you say about OVER shooting is accurate. I believe the question is when is a specific good to great shooter (think Katie Lou) is shooting too much or over shooting. Arike, I don't see enough of her to know the difference. Too I was attempting to point out Arike took the last shot but as Geno often points out its not the last shot that actually won or lost the game,. Young's performance was much more important but not as visible. Uconn has had a barrel of people who could and did create their own shots and last second shots none ever thrilled me as Sue Bird did against ND.

Worth noting that Aquino is not travelling with the team to Vancouver. Rueck said it is a medical issue, one that allows her to practice and warmup, but not take part in contact.

Has now been speculation that she didn’t travel to Canada because she didn’t want to leave the country due to VISA issues.

First it was an unknown medical condition, then a leg injury and now a VISA issue? I mean, something sounds not good about this.
