Thompson now says that it would’ve put an “academic strain” on her kids so they forfeited.
A home game.
I have never heard a game cancelled or forfeited for this reason.
Never.
To me this is just players/coaches who aren’t all that interested in playing. Which makes me wonder why they are in D1.
That’s just BS. Time to start a new poll. How many days till Tina is gone?
She was an assistant at Texas and presumably had done ok there? This was a bad hire to begin with. Thompson's basketball skills are beyond reproach but she simply didn't have the experience to run a D1 basketball program. Not even talking about the actual games, but the entire program is in disarray.
After the statement about the forfeits, when other schools had 5 games in 9 days and didn't forfeit, somone had to do something. Virginia wasn't alone in students missing classes.
Y'all should go hire Dawn. Obviously she be great and it get her out of the SEC.
That’s why tutors and academic advisors are assigned to the team. I remember one year that some UConn freshmen had to take a test while on the road and the academic advisor told Geno they’d be at practice when they were done with the test. After the statement about the forfeits, when other schools had 5 games in 9 days and didn't forfeit, somone had to do something. I vote for Dayton’s Coach- she’d be great for that team! Heck, I will be glad to drive her to the interview and maybe she could start tomorrow! My suggested candidates or
Dear Ms. Williams:
Time for a first and second call to arrange an interview with Tammi Reiss, who -- just in case you weren't aware -- the now very successful coach of Rhode Island's WBB team who happens to have been backcourt partner with one Dawn Staley back in UVA's heyday. Plus she coached that URI team that came to UVA and won in December.
Other possible thoughts if that does not work out:
- Dayton's Shauna Green, another Atlantic 10 team who is superb, year in and year out.
- Megan Duffy. Hear me out here, Marquette lovers.
Marquette is a largely senior-based team (and two of those are grad students). While Meg's recruited ok, there's nothing comparable at the underclass level and/or in the pipleline.
She could leave after a few great years and then get quite some time to build up a program, which we know she can do, after great work at Miami.
The only hurdle there might be why two Marquette kids (who were playing a lot) left to go to UVA and that dumpster fire.
That said, I'd keep all eyes on Rhode Island, initially and then some.
I’ve been saying for quite awhile that Tina needed to go. Glad that Williams announced it immediately after the season’s end. I’m sure the decision was made sometime ago. From recruiting to communications to play on the floor - this has been awful. As a season ticket holder, I only went to 3 games. It just wasn’t worth the time and effort, although we did win 2 of the 3 games I went to. I did go to the RI game and Tami got a huge ovation. But I would want to have some confidence that she could recruit. She’s been around awhile and I think RI is her 1st head coaching job.My suggested candidates or

What’s your conflict?I vote for Dayton’s Coach- she’d be great for that team! Heck, I will be glad to drive her to the interview and maybe she could start tomorrow!
Not that I have any conflicts of interest in this hire…
Not to mention the Stanford team being on the road for a month last season. I'd be willing to bet they did OK academically, and they certainly excelled on the court. That’s why tutors and academic advisors are assigned to the team. I remember one year that some UConn freshmen had to take a test while on the road and the academic advisor told Geno they’d be at practice when they were done with the test.
In the article linked on the previous page, this caught my eye:I’ve never heard of players not wanting to play games.
He doesn't want her to leave Rhode Island. And that's why @DefenseBB also likes my Shauna Green suggestion: keeps Tammi R at URI and gets rid of Ms. Green at Dayton. Ah, DBB, you're a sly one....What’s your conflict?

Uh, because she likes to accessorize? (Is this a trick question?)Why was TT wearing a Chanel pin during the games?
Maybe she got that NIL contract. Why was TT wearing a Chanel pin during the games?
Except with her new contract there is a 5 million dollar buy-out. SC is safe for a bit.Y'all should go hire Dawn. Obviously she'd be great and it'd get her out of the SEC.
