USC Gamecocks 2024-25 Season: Part Two

I might expect a few women of the Triad to refer to me as insufferable, not here on a basketball message board :confused::oops:

Seems odd that a bench player would make a post like that. Was there genuine concern that she might bail?
Get’s crazier by the day. I could see if the player was graduating, but had additional eligibility and opportunity to go elsewhere. Other than your coach, who else really needs to know? I’m looking to see if next year Dawn plays such a long rotation. If she doesn’t, as good as some of these players are…they may play less.

There was a rumor out there that she was homesick and might transfer. Her mom felt the need to talk when rapper Plies critically chimed in on Twitter about her possibly transferring. Just the whole paranoia surrounding the portal. Got people in and outside the fan base still wondering about MiLaysia, Tessa, Dauda, and Tac’s intentions.

Gianna Kneepkins will visit SCar, Texas, Oklahoma, and UCLA per Skim.

Well that would be pretty crazy at SCar and awfully impactful at any of the 4.
The second she hit the portal I said “Dawn, go get her” on twitter.. and look at this ..

I think before Latson committed she would’ve been a take, but unless one of Lay or Tessa is planning to depart then I can’t imagine she’d join a backcourt this crowded.

Latson - PaoPao replacement ✔️
Kneepkens - Breezy replacement
C tbd - Feagin replacement

Keep rotation minutes the same (top 8/9 play 15-25 a game depending on opponent matchup/ hot hand)

a man can dream

Am I the only one who thinks Latson may come off the bench? I don’t think she’d have transferred to South Carolina expecting to score 25 a game again. She knows she’ll be taking on a different role in exchange for increased national exposure, better development for the pros, and a strong chance at a national title. I’d be surprised if Dawn didn’t inform her of the possibility of coming off the bench.

No one else in the country will have a player like her as a sixth woman but given Fulwiley and Tessa have waited their turn it’s what I think is actually most likely to happen.
Anything's possible, but I don't think it's the plausible scenario here--assuming she's healthy. She'll start because she brings something that the returning guards don't bring enough of at this point in their careers.

Off topic, but as I was leaving my garage, on the way to work this morning, the gate attendant had a 2 liter bottle of Cheerwine in his little office.

Maddy was homesick, as she is admittedly shy, but her mom convinced her she needed to stay. I'm glad because she is one of my favorites.

If she did this as a result of taking Latson, it's a catastrophic gaffe by Staley.
Dawn's approach isn't for everyone. On a team full of nonscorers, I'm not sure how a generational talent can't manage more than 12 ppg.

silly.

you don’t turn down the nation’s leading scorer and all-American talent if she wants to come and play for your school. if Lay didn’t want to compete for a start next year and thought it and more minutes was owed then good luck to her. Dawn probably knew this was a real possibility and that’s why she was recruiting Kneepkens from the portal.

barring half the team having season ending injuries, SC will still compete for a SEC & national championship next yr. … with or without her.

that said, will miss seeing her in the G&B, thanks for helping SC win a National Championship, and wish her all the best .

Maybe, maybe not. There seemed to be some excitement about Maddy Williams this year. Recall she had some injuries that hampered her season. Then she also has players like Makeer coming in with the 2025 class. Too soon to say until next season is underway.

Wow I didn't see this coming. I know some comments were made by her after the last game but I thought it was just frustration with the loss talking. She should stay with Dawn to maximixe her potential.

I'll wait until it's official before I get sad. Maybe the coaches will change her mind. I felt like the South Carolina coaches put a ton of work in her and next year was going to be the year she put it all together. If she leaves, hopefully she won't go to a system where she will regress to her old habits and mask her need to grow (Tennessee, Oklahoma, etc.).

Unfortunate to see leaving but Latson is an upgrade so we’re good for next season. Will be interesting to see how she does elsewhere and if she finds greener grass with a coach who will, I guess, provide her looser reins. My concern has been more focused on Tessa’s future with the team as she’s more my kind of player so crossing my fingers she remains in Columbia.

I'll miss Lay's jaw-dropping displays of athleticism and the way she energized the crowd, but seeing her get stripped twice by Azzi "Gary Payton" Fudd in the NC game was enough for me to realize that she's got a long way to go in her development. Best of luck to her, and I sincerely hope that she stays away from the mercenary factories like TCU, Oregon, and Louisville.

Silly.

Per 40 SO stats:
27.6, 5.4 reb 5.2 as, 3.9 TO, 43.8 FG
24.8, 5.9, 4.2, 4.0, 42.6

1. Two years of is better than one year of Latson.
2. is a South Carolina product, and that matters a great deal to many fans.
3. 'South Carolina doesn't lose players they want!' has value. Once that aura is pierced, it's gone for good.
4. You need to show loyalty to get loyalty. sat behind a clearly less talented senior this year, only to be told she will have to sit behind her former AAU backup next year.
5. at full potential is better than Latson at full potential. Latson is closer to reaching her max, but she is also one year older and had real HS coaching. had SCHSL "go score" coaching.

I hope Staley can talk her back into the fold, but taking Latson at the expense of is a gaffe.

SC will be fine but I get its frustrating at times to lose a good player with amazing potential/upside especially with as much work Dawn has put in to mold her

Obviously bringing in Latson presented potential risk for this but you can't fault Dawn for wanting a sure upgrade at one of the guard spots offensively. I guess its the nature of the beast in college athletics now.

Agree to disagree
But
SC will be just fine

everyone is gonna get up in their feels about this one, but is good business probably for everyone involved.

SCar has never been immune to the portal or losing SCar players.

Tennessee's best player is from Turbeville, SC. NC State made a Final Four with Rivers, we lost a game to a Missouri team with two former players on it, I think.

Gonna respectfully disagree with you. First, it is my impression that Fulwiley was all in favor of Latson coming into the fold, because they were former AAU teammates. Second, of all of our returning guards, I see Raven and Tessa getting the starting nod with Latson, because Lay is just so inconsistent.

I think that Lay wants more minutes than Dawn is willing to guarantee her, and as a result, the portal beckons. I wish her the best, but we’ll survive.

YMMV

I assume she will end up in the SEC. It would be funny if she ended up at Clemson. Either way I hope she drops 50 on y'all's head when y'all invariably meet on the court next season. Respectfully

Fine by me--as long as Klempsun loses.
