This is most unfortunate for her. It remains to be seen how the team reacts and what that means for title chances. It's part of the game (unfortunately) and good teams and coaches find ways to compensate.

Alot of fanbases are gloating at the possibility that our season is over. TBH
Maybe some wannabees, but I can tell you two who are not gloating: UConn and Notre Dame. Both have been down this road before, and both have won multiple national championships over the years.

When you think about it, we were really lucky last year when it came to overall health of our team. I credit our strength and conditioning coach for some of this, but in the great scheme of things, we may have been overdue for an unlucky break. Let's hope she heals up and can continue her playing career.

Thats a pretty broad assumption; this is just speculation on your part -right? Team Defense holds the Opps. To 51 points a game. Not one player imo..
Very true, but Ms Watkins is, debatably, the best defender in the country; a defensive anchor that makes everyone else's defense more effective(think Olajuwon, Rodman, Jordan, Pippen, Bill Russell, KC Jones, Cheryl Swoopes). And the better teams on Carolina's schedule(Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, and UConn) are a sure bet to skew the average upward.

Replacing her defense and rebounding will be a group effort. We need the guards to be more sharp on their perimeter defense and to help with rebounding. We need Tac, Walker and Dauda to step up and have at least one of them become a dependable fourth option.

Based on what I've seen we'll probably see that Edwards/Feagin/Kitts will have increased minutes and Tac will play some more meaningful minutes as that fourth option. I'm hoping the light clicks for Dauda because of her experience from Arkansas in this league.
The problem with Dauda is that the program she transferred out of plays very little defense. Although Dauda is a D1 athlete she really didn’t have the kind of playing experience before she got to college that most athletes now have.

Tac is the one I’m hoping will get a chance now and excel. She has all the tools. She’s a great teammate and one the other players can rally around. If we can just get 5 fouls worth of her (and she’ll get them:)) that’s what we need. Her presence on the floor will at least be a deterrent. Remember she is just coming off 2 knee surgeries and wasn’t cleared fully until mid November. To me, she’s the key to whether we can get to the FF.

As for Watkins, she’ll be under some of the best care she could get. We have a great orthopedic doctor and IDK if there’s a better rehab team than Molly and Craig. My thought is she’ll be ready some time next year, play as much as she can, and then go into the draft. With so many teams next year somebody will take a chance on her.

Oh, I'm aware of all the above and agree that Tac looks to be the next woman up. She looked really good in a recent game while playing mop up minutes -- scored 7 points in like 3 minutes of play if I remember right. She also had the "Cardoso effect" of drawing perimeter defenders close to her, letting her get some easy assists to guards waiting to take threes. She still looks a little wild on defense but I love her energy. She may be rusty but I think we are at the beginning of seeing her knock that rust off.

Thoughts on tonight’s game vs Texas A&M:

Positives: Six players in double figures, led by Edwards’ 19… defense was very stout for the first three quarters, and by that point the issue was no longer in doubt… Dauda, Tac, and Walker all played… this game was an excellent warmup for the five game stretch that begins Sunday against Texas.

Negatives: When you win by 41, you have to nitpick to find things to complain about, so here goes: Missed layups continue to plague us… Raven had 0 points and Tehina had only 4, and that won’t cut it on Sunday… Fulwiley had me alternately cheering, then cursing… I think Dawn gave her a long leash in the second half — if she ever learns some discipline in her shot selection, she’ll start…concerned that Maddie is not back yet, because we really need her over the next two weeks.

Like I said, we won by 41. Let’s enjoy the victory… forever to thee!

Maddie will be back sooner rather than later. She was at the game finally which is a positive - the first one she was ok’d to go to. She’s been practicing some. We need her back asap.

You are right on Lay. She’s a highlight reel and a headache all rolled into one. Right now she’s trying so hard to not turn the ball over and bless her heart she can’t play 1 vs 4 in the paint. :( When she learns just a little discipline she’ll be fun to watch even more. Hope that light turns on quickly.

The 3 main post players - Sania, Chloe, Joyce were very, very good last night. Sunday will be the big test. I’m anxious to see how they play Sunday. It’s going to be a different beast. They get most of their points inside. That dribble/drive offense Vic has is a beast. They don’t generally hit a lot of 3s. We’re gonna have to hit some. Hope Pao has a good day.

It says on the ESPN app that our game against Texas on Sunday will air on ESPN/ESPN+/Disney+. I've never heard of any games airing on Disney+. Do you think this is a new feature that Disney+ is testing out?

With Max, Netflix, Peacock, Prime airing the NBA, NFL, WWE, etc, Disney is smart for making things even more accessible.

To answer your question: Yes, it is a new feature as of last month.

Very interesting. I feel like this is one more step in the direction of recreating cable TV through an app. Disney+ is already turning into a conglomeration of apps and this looks like the next step.

Fulwiley plays out of control throughout the game. If she could play more disciplined, she would be a nightmare matchup for other teams. She could play her game, but she just needs to look at the big picture in every possession instead of every other possession. That said....she is fun to watch.

If you get the Disney bundle yes. It allows me the ESPN +....which is a plus (pun intended).

This is different. There are other games that just show as ESPN+, whereas our game is showing as ESPN+/Disney+, so I believe this is a new feature native to Disney+ and not an extension of the ESPN+ features available in the bundle. So anyone with Disney+ but no ESPN+ bundle should still be able to watch the game.

Excited about tomorrow's game in Columbia; too bad both teams are not completely healthy as it seems Michigan transfer, Laila Phelia still won't be available to play for Texas.

I'm not sure about the nature of the injury. However, given the timing of it (she last played about a month ago), could she possibly be in line for a redshirt? I could see that being the best course of action if the injury is severe enough for her to continue to miss time (again, I'm not sure of the actual injury).

It's some kind of eye (retina) problem which I believe she sustained over the summer; no one has ever stated if she got poked in the eye or if some issue simply developed on its own. She did play earlier in the season with goggles, and she buried a three-pointer at Notre Dame on December 2. Don't believe she's played since then and she is only suited up in warmups and sits at the far end of the bench.

She has already released a statement that she is not playing again this year unless I am mistaken.

I had not read that. Just did a search on twitter and don't see anything there or on her Instagram. If you recall where you saw it, please link it here.

Huge game today, for both teams. Unlike LSU, both have played a number of ranked teams already. And they play again next month in Austin.

There are three elite coaches in the game today… Geno, Dawn, and Kim Mulkey. Vic Schaefer is a natty away from joining that group. And he’ll get there… damn near got there with Mississippi State a couple of times, with less talent than he has now. Vic is a defense-first coach at heart. Neither team may exceed 70 points today… gonna be a lot of fouls called and free throws shot. We’ll need the whole bench.

This is the type of game where Fulwiley will be needed to have one of her electrifying games, she is unguardable when on her game. I think SC’s posts will battle but not be big contributors on offense. The one to watch for SC amongst the bigs is Edwards, if she plays well in this game she will officially no longer be just a freshman, she is ready.

Fulwiley, PaoPao and Tessa will have to be on their games as I see the backcourts deciding the victor. Texas will be very difficult to control on the boards with their size. Fulwiley could be the X factor, but Booker could be also. Hard to pick the winner in this one.

I think highly of Rory Harmon (based on what she brings to her team), but I do not think that she (and Holle) are better players than Tessa J and Lay. That's the game right there.
