OT: USA WINS HOCKEY GOLD

So you wanted Canada to win, so you're a little upset I get it. The fact that you couldn't just flat out answer yes or no before explaining your thoughts gives me the impression that you wanted Canada to win. Not to mention you bringing up the fact the US hadn't won gold the last 46 years comes across as snipiness.

Now while I would agree that Deepsters post is classless, is it any different then saying suck it Duke? Its playful sports banter on a message board and should be nothing more then that.
Canada did have some sweet unis - love the red and black.

Hockey is THE sport in Canada and all the proof was the expressions on the Canadian players’ faces after the game. It’s something extra for them. Sports news in the summer there is hockey.
But I bet the biggest thrill these guys can get is the Stanley Cup over a gold medal on teams that have been together just 2 weeks, but it’s still a big thrill for them.

I don't know where you're getting that I'm "upset" at the game outcome. I moved right on to the Pirates spring training games and didn't give it another thought except to reply here.

I also don't know how I'm "snippy" mentioning 46 years between golds when the post I was responding to made an asinine claim about American guts winning every time despite going 0-for-Winter Olympics during those 46 years. How are people missing that context?

1. "Suck it Canada" hit me the wrong way. If I misinterpreted that into something it's not, then have my apology.
2. Deep's post was stupid and jingoistic and I'm not apologizing for calling that asswipery out.

I'm happy US hockey has come such a long way. I liked what Hughes said about how there's a brotherhood of US players. I'm also just coming to grips that two guys named Tkachuk play for our team :-)
Suck it Canada, suck it St. John's. They are our rivals, it's the best rivalry going in sports, and this is the biggest game between the two countries since 2010. I'm pumped we brought home the gold and I'm pumped it burns them up they're bringing home the silver.

By the way, I root for Canadian teams to win every Stanley Cup if the Blackhawks aren't involved.

I thought it was a funny response. It’s much weirder to me that people have their panties so twisted up about it.

I don't know. Just look at the guys from the original Dream Team or some of the other guys who've taken home medals from international team competitions. Ryder Cup, World Baseball, etc. It means something pretty important to those men and women.

Sidney Crosby is proud to have two Stanley Cups. He's even prouder to have scored the Golden Goal to win the Olympics for Canada.

Posts can be misread, but I do see you making excuses for Canada while refusing to give credit to the US so that kind of gives me the impression that you were rooting for Canada which is fine.

If "excuses" means Canada not having Crosby and objectively gagging on more scoring opportunities, then I guess I'm guilty.

To me, it's more like UConn winning a tight game vs a ranked opponent where the opponent was missing a key player and choked at the FT line in crunch time. I'm rooting for UConn, but I know there was some element of luck that got us that win. And generally speaking, it's OK to mention that fortunate outcome on the BY w/o being torched for it.

I'm trying to remember a better hockey game in this century and I can't come up with one, not even the Pens cup games. I'm happy I watched it, it was amazing.

Oh no! The crabby guy who hates everyone’s posts made fun of me!

You want jingoistic? I was at the local pub in town with my USA gear on draped in Old Glory jumping around and hugging strangers with tears in my eyes. When they played the anthem, the whole bar sang it proudly. One of the best sporting events I’ve ever experienced. And I still have an ear to ear smile on my face. Can’t wait to see the team at the state of the union address Tuesday.

They're Canadian. I've been saying for decades that we should send Canada a bill for the damage their damned geese cause every year.
No if they are born in US they are American’s😂

Still no explanation of what happened to American guts during those 46 years, eh?

I'll stand by my criticism of that comment.

But I applaud you for staying in character.

Weird hill you’re on but you do you.

It’s gotta be a rough morning for you with Jack Hughes grin taking over every social media feed. Enjoy. 🏅🇺🇸

I don't know why you think Jack Hughes grin would bug me. Dude played a great game and literally left parts of himself on the ice. Fwiw, I enjoyed the USA celebration. As I've said repeatedly to the point where most followers of this thread are likely sick of me already, all I wanted was a great game, and I got that in spades.

And yet still no explanation of those 46 years of guts 😉

Funny to think your cranky little act is going to drag me down your rat hole.

Have fun whizzing in the punchbowl alone. Guts overcame talent. Guts got us 41 saves and killed a 5 on 3. Guts neutralized Connor McDavid in a game and setting (3 on 3) when he should have won gold for his country. Maybe you need more guts.

I'm not the one who made an idiotic comment about "every time". Apparently you don't have the guts to explain yourself. Are you sure you're not Canadian?

🤣 Your troll game needs work.

Guts over talent. Every time. You saw it first hand this weekend with both the mens and womens team. God bless the US of A.

Man what a gut punch for the canadiens and losing to the Dodgers in choking fashion blowing games 6 and 7 at home, then losing the gold in mens and women's OT on back to back days. Hey Canada got gold in curling which was controversial and awarded by the judges.

You're still a little hurt from that OT loss which makes you take post # 11 by Deepster personally still it's ok.

Guts may win over talent every time. That's not the argument.

The argument is "American guts every time". Over 46 years.

Exhibit A:

So you're calling that USA team and every other that lost since 1980 gutless. And this from a guy who's too afraid to drive in downtown Hartford, lol.

I can do this all day, all week, all month, all year.

I didn't say that. You're putting words in my mouth and you're not good at doing it.

Not sure what you have against America. I've never been more proud of my country and the guts we showed this weekend.

What a game. American guts prevail over talent every time. 🏅🇺🇸

2010. That would be in the "every time" category. So would 2002.

Your words, not mine.

So, now I'm officially bored by you. And I'm going to enjoy the day and all the post-gold celebrating. You are on ignore for the time being. I may un-ignore you at some point, maybe I won't. We'll see.

God bless the US of A.

Not yesterday.

Even yesterday they outplayed USA most of the game. But as I said, Hockey is one of those sports where it doesn't mean victory. Our goalie was astonishing.

He was!

Sports is the ultimate meritocracy. Canada took it to us for a lot of the game, but on that given Sunday, America was the better team.

Happens a lot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Get a hot goalie, you can go a long way. Hellebuyck was amazing. I don't regularly follow the NHL unless the Pens are in, but easy to see how this guy is a 3-time Vezina winner and even won the MVP.

The game was awesome (especially the outcome), the celebrations were awesome and I still love this commercial:
