7:30 pm edt.

The United States U18 national team, which includes UConn freshman guard Christyn Williams and freshman forward Olivia Nelson-Ododa, begins play in the FIBA U-18 Americas Championship Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. edt. when it takes on Argentina in Group A pool play in Mexico City.

Team USA will continue Group A play Thursday at 3 p.m. edt. against Chile and conclude Friday at 7:30 p.m. edt. against Puerto Rico. Following pool play, the tournament's eight teams will be seeded for Sunday's single-elimination quarterfinals. The semifinals will be played next Monday and the gold-medal and bronze-medal games next Tuesday. The four semifinalists receive bids to the 2019 FIBA U-19 World Cup.

Williams will be playing for USA Basketball for a fourth time, having won gold at the 2017 FIBA 3x3 U-18 World Cup, silver at the 2017 FIBA U-19 World Cup, and bronze at the 2016 FIBA U-17 world championships. Nelson-Ododa's only previous national team experience is with the 2016 U-17 team. She did not try out for the 2017 U-19 team due to a knee injury.

Six games in seven days. Hope USA has a good trainer.

Expecting significant contributions from both in 2018 - 2019, this will be a good barometer.

Sure hope the rims are a bit more forgiving in these games................I bet the USA and every other team lost 5-10 shooting percentage points in the U17 tournament that just concluded due to those ridiculously tight rims...............thought I was watching carnival basketball............

The rims may have been a problem for everyone. That’s everyone not named Azzi Fudd.

I read a post in the last 24 hours I believe it was my UConnCat whose opinion I respect, said that our U18 team, like the U17 team, won't get much resistance in these games. The teams in this field are no match for them. The OP said the U18 team should win each game by at least 35 points. If I find it, I'll add it to this post later.

Here it is:
The U18 team will win every game by a lot. I expect the average MOV to be 30-40 points. This is the FIBA Americas tournament, not the world cup. No team will challenge Team USA. Team USA has not lost one of these games since 1996. Team USA scrimmaged Canada yesterday and won by 30.

Next year's U19 team will be a blend of players from the U18 team and the U17 team. A few of the 2018 players will have the advantage of playing a year of college basketball.

I think Liv just pickup her 2nd foul a very cheap one.

The Legend down the lane.

Was that a moving screen on Liv?

Jeff just did a hockey substitution. All five players swapped out .

Beautiful spin moves for Peoples off two defenders

My Spanish is not good enough to keep up with the pace of the announcers.

US up 14 to 4
Play very ragged so far for both teams.

.-.
End of 1st quarter. US up 18 to 8. Very sloppy quarter for the US 9 PF and 6 TO.

Liv with a block on one end and then a rebound and put-back at the other end. Jeff is clapping.

The refs are calling the game tight. This game has quickly become a "whistle fest".

Argentina is better than they look against the USA. They'll do much better against the other teams in the tournament.

Liv just picked up her third trying to defend on the perimeter

I wonder how many of their shots the USA will have to block before they stop driving the lane?

Ok let me be the first to speculate that the U17 might just smoke this team.
I haven't seen one quality pass from this team yet and the defensive techniques are HORRIBLE!
