IMO: from the looks of the play and given that they were doing absolutely NOTHING to Sue, my guess is that she jammed her leg and they sat her as a precautionary measure. Sue looked concerned when the team wasn't playing well, but much more relaxed, later.

I'm guessing a hot soak and a good nights sleep, easy on it until the next game (light bike work at the most), and she'll be fine. Maybe beat up on the Men's team in spades for a while. Good, happy thoughts help.

Has DT said she's NOT going to Tokyo 2020?
When you're top 5 in the world at age 34, seems possible to be back at 38.
Teresa Edwards played in the wnba at age 40 so it's not unheard of.

Obviously injuries and just general aging are the issue, but I can see DT, more so than others, continuing to play as long as she can run up and down the court. And the 2020 guards could certainly use some mentoring.

According to ESPN, Sue Bird injured her knee. Nothing more specific yet.

Random thoughts:

  1. Japan plays lovely team BB and in the first half was left open and created both for 3's which they hit at an above average rate and pick and rolls, often embarrassing the US players
  2. In the second half the US team contested virtually every shot and had uncovered the the tendencies of their Asian counterparts. (surely with the assitance of the coaching staff). The depth of the US talent was its usual overwhelming self and although the final score indicates the usual domination and blowout, this was anything but. The ability of the US team to return to the court for the 2nd half and perform at such a much higher level, both offensively and defensively (should have been reversed) was really illuminating. So many players contributed, that's it not worth mentioning the roll-call of names.
  3. There have been several comments about Sue's facial expressions on the bench.
I was taken by the kaleidoscope, of emotions that flashed by in a matter of seconds (even less): support for the team, anger, frustration, deep concern, sadness.
Of course, I don't know Sue personally, but what a complex and fascinating woman she is.
Hope she is ok, fear that she's not.

I wanna believe she just felt an adhesion go pop.

I think DT will be back for one more. However, she will need to rest her body more than is possible if she plays in Russia and the US like she has been. She will need more down time if she wants to keep her body healthy. With every year injuries heal more slowly and the aches and pains increase. Yes, even at that age.

I think DT and probably Whalen will have to do their mentoring at the WC's. DT could have the Catchings role in 2020. Maybe.

I can see Dee in 2020, perhaps as a nonstarter. She can be a cheerleader and 3-point specialist. I think she can mentor Moriah quite nicely.

Early on I read an article that Geno was not happy with Angel's attitude/behavior and had a heart-to-heart and ever since Angel will run through a wall for Geno! She really likes and respects him! He now brags about Angel's change in attitude!

I'm not sure about the timing, but Angel was valuable in London in 2012, but out of control in Turkey in 2014. She reverted back to trying to do everything herself and got benched. This time around, we're seeing the Angel of 2012, maybe even better. Yes, Geno has talked about her struggles and growth. He's very proud of her.
