OT: - URI Hires Archie Miller | The Boneyard

OT: URI Hires Archie Miller

More compensation & support details for new Rhode Island MBB HC Miller from the Providence Journal: "An $8.5-million deal — $1.4 million the first two seasons through 2023-24, $1.9 million in each of the last three through 2026-27. [...] Miller’s contract includes a salary pool of $765,000 for his support staff — three assistant coaches, three full-time staff members and two unpaid graduate assistants. His buyout starts at $1 million through April 2023 and declines by $200,000 annually over the life of the deal. The Rams have pledged to add more charter flights for road games and set a firmer timeline for the construction of a basketball-specific practice facility."

A lot of that stuff was promised to Dan Hurley if I recall correctly, but they couldn't line up funding.

We all know the Hurley ties and how much he loved Rhody but I’m just saying… if URI can turn it back around they would be a nice OOC resume booster that is right next door…

I know Providence does their thing with them but it’s an easy drive to and from Kingston from CT.

Just sayin…

Interesting that they have to split $765k six ways for the assistants. That’s some tough math.

What a racket. Guy has never won anything, .564 winning percentage, gets fired because Indiana sucked, they still pay him $10mil to leave, he's playing around on the internet and RI rolls out the red carpet with another $9mil? Seriously.

Just noticed the above. Oh God yes, just what Rhode Island needs because it's doing so well. Charter flights for it's STATE basketball team. Ridiculous.

Miller's career record is 206-121 for a .630 winning percentage. He had a lot of success prior to Indiana at URI's fellow A-10 member Dayton. Archie actually has a better career winning percentage and more NCAA tournament wins than Dan Hurley (incl time here at UConn) who is being paid considerably more.

You're right. Was looking at his Indiana record. Counterpoint is a final four a decade ago doesn't make an elite coach. I'm no Dan Hurley fan either for the same reasons and his overpaid brother make a pair.
