Just hire a young guy who has a tad of publicity behind him. Not hard.

Brown as a HC? I don't know. Didn't seem to have a good grasp of game situations to me. Clearly a great motivator and teacher though.

I would prefer someone on the right side of 40. But to answer your question - if you can sign up for AARP - 'old man'.
so Saban and Meyer are out on your criteria???...
Age is one thing, energy level and effectiveness are another.

I think you need to re-evaluate your criteria.

I'll take anyone that can recruit, coach, develop, and put together an effective game day strategy, and then get some wins.
If they can do that for 5 years or so, even better.

My concern with a young coach is that any success will get them an offer somewhere else. And Uconn needs some stability.

What Uconn needs is an 'experienced' head coach, maybe someone with NFL experience. Preferably someone with good connections to the CT high schools. And, if he had an idea for his OC, even better.

Exactly, we should make sure that they are approved by the HS coaches here in CT as well.

That will help us get over the hump... of the first drop on the roller coaster.

Ok while schools are out hiring Dave Doreans, Kliff Kingsburies, Matt Rhules, and Willie Taggarts, UConn can exploit the market inefficiency and bring in another 55-60 year old who was run off by another program. Maybe Bobby Bowden wants to try and pad his win total.

I can not wait for the first person who says Phil Fulmer should be considered.

whaler isn't credible. Argumentative. He misses the irony is his arguments often.

You do know Charlie Strong was past 50 when he was given his Louisville chance?

I like this debate & appreciate the Don Brown comments. He has a spark; but, may not be the full package that builds us to where we need. I've got my eye on Jim Mora at UCLA. A fast hardnosed turnaround with discipline. Tough defense & exciting offense. Maybe Josh McDaniel. Maybe other Pros have this ability. And young.

Why would connections to CT high schools be of any importance? If your final paragraph is sarcasm I apologize but the manner in which your post was written prior to that point led me to believe it was not.

Read your final paragraph and tell me how that isn't what would have been a perfect criteria to bring P in here 32 months ago.

I'm not credible? Hahahaha.

Yes I know how old Charlie Strong was when he was hired. Do you have any other wildly successful SEC coordinators who were generally passed over for years because of their race? Do you have a successful SEC coordinator who would even take a total rebuild job in the AAC?

Hire another dinosaur and you may as well send the bulldozers to raze Rentschler Field.

You basically described PP

I thought PP was a solid choice. Obviously, it hasn't worked out with W's and game day success, but I thought the decision was rational based on what they were trying to do. People can debate all they want. We still debate whether RE was a good coach.
I'm still holding out PP can salvage this season with 2 wins to go 2-1. As low as the fan base is right now, wins agains MD and Mich would get everyone pumped. You'd even see posts about a BCS bid after beating Louisville.

I've heard the name Kirby Smart. No idea how old he is.
Before PP was hired the name Gus Malzahn was mentioned as well.

What about the MAC? There must be some coaches there we could hire.
Campbell from Toledo if he would leave OH.

For the sake of argument, lets say we do (somehow) pull out a win against Maryland, lose to Michigan in a manner similar to our last two losses to Cincy (or our 2011 loss to Louisville), where we seemed lost early, found some sense of urgency to make it a somewhat competitive game but lost it when we needed it most late in the game, and from there stumble through the remainder of the season where we pull off another surprising upset similar to last year at Louisville but also add a WTF loss such as Temple at home last season. Would that be some accomplishment in your eyes?

An additional question, I imagine that you had line (in terms of overall final 2013 record) that the team had to surpass in order to justify bringing P back for 2014. After what we witnessed this past Thursday has that line moved (to require an even better performance)? Why has it moved or not moved in your eyes?

In the world of McHugh & Hathaway, Paul Pasqualoni was a wonderful choice. That philosophy is forever debunked. There is little I like today about that choice. Public persona in this age of CFB. Poor team morale. Offense that begs for some production. Decline in our wonderful OLine. I'm just not happy.

New England has produced a lot of football coaching talent. I think we can put in a super quality guy to stitch the fabric of what will make UConn football. Successful.

I'm not sure who is saying that Edsall wasn't successful. I ignore them. For the task he had, Randy did an extraordinary job. He might not have been able to take us further.

How many of us wouldn't take Don Brown over HCPP now?

At the moment I would prefer Rich Kotite over P. That doesn't mean I view him as the answer.

I would have taken him over PP last year, but not now. Reason: at the end of this season WM has the opportunity to find someone whose career is on the upswing, not plateauing as Don Brown seems to be (3 OC positions -MD, UConn, BC not exactly on the upswing). Possibly someone younger as some on this thread note, though I wouldn't put a hard cut-off. At this point hiring brown would be a safe local hire - PP 2.0.

As badly as they played against Towson I don't think that a turnaround is possible in just a couple of weeks. Especially with the present staff firmly in place. Maybe a new coach could fire up the troops in a short time but these guys are on a ventilator awaiting a transplant. No Heart, No Vitality, No nothing. Sure throw the players under the bus but we know you know you are extremely overpaid for the level of play that you inspire. Time to Admit it. No more stupid cliche's. The BoneYard is not blind to your coaching wants.

My original line was 7-8 wins with at least one win over mich, Louisville, or md.
Could still happen.
I'm not going to judge the season on one game regardless of how much that game sucked.

Can we stop labeling the P hire as 'safe'. Unless you define safe in a strange fashion.. An all downside-no ceiling hire isn't really safe, it's quite self-destructive.

I'm starting the mike Locksley bandwagon! Top recruiter, former head coach, young, coached with ron zook florida, offensive coordinator who gets kids to play for him. Able to see he needs to get his play maker (Diggs) the ball. I want to see what he can do with an actual qb next week. I have to say it should be better than what we witnessed Thursday.

You want a guy who was 2-26 as a head coach?

After an internal investigation by UNM, it was found the minor was not a recruit as erroneously reported. Instead a childhood friend of Meiko Locksley from his Champaign, IL days where his dad served as Offensive Coordinator for the Illini from 2005-2008. [18]

I want a guy who can recruit period, young energetic, with some Head coaching experience. Offensive minded. Guys who bring in big-time talent. he was named as running bac ks coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Florida under Ron Zook. Coached at big time programs, and brings players even to Illinois a mid level big 10 school like "He is credited with luring at least nine players from the Washington D.C. area for Illinois from 2005 through 2008, including wide receiver Arrelious Benn, 2007 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.[10]

Dude was still a minor. How about the fight with the assistant coach or the sexual harassment charges? He got run out of town. Do a little more research than Wiki.

Can he recruit MD/DC- absolutely.
