Updated ESPNW Hoopgurlz Rankings

Chance Gray out of Ohio up to #7, the Duke verbal Jackson up to #15 (though she's higher on ASGR). The Tennessee verbal from New Jersey up to #16.

Hannah Stines from California debuts at #33 and article says Stanford is recruiting her (elsewhere it sounds like Stanford might not be in the mix for Rice anymore).

Updated and expanded for classes 22, 23, 24.

I like Williams from Louisiana up to #3 for 23. Obviously Mulkey and LSU are ones to watch in her recruiting.

Chloe Briggs a somewhat surprisingly modest debut at #27.

Seems like DC/Maryland, Minnesota, Washington state have a lot of talent in some of these classes.

G Ashlynn Shade
Noblesville High School (IN)
espnW ranking:
5
Previous espnW ranking: Unranked

Shade is the biggest stock riser in the 2023 class. A physically strong guard with major elevation on her jumper, the 5-10 Shade can catch fire both from 3 and in her exceptional pull-up game inside the arc. She can attack off the ball screen in drag action or when she is isolated at the top of the key.

She has a knack for creating space and finding an opportunity to get her shot off. She is quick and has a versatile handle to complement her shooting. Shade sets the tone competitively for her teams. Her outstanding conditioning allows her to get after opponents on the defensive end with ball pressure, communication and passing lane pressure.

Shade currently has offers from Louisville, Maryland, Iowa, UCLA, North Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, among others.

They also moved UConn '22 target KK Bransford up to 14th from 27th.

I had NO idea why that happened in the first place unless the new guys/gals running Hoopgurlaz threw a dart and Dan O's ratings and decided "see...we differ." Then, of course, the kids walks out on the court and is named best player in Ohio. Which most of us knew anyways.

Wow! @donalddoowop you see this. Bella Fontieroy fell from top 10 in the class all the way down to 88.
I saw her early in the season. Her team got eliminated in the state semi-finals. I did not see her stand out in the game that I can remember. Maybe the drop is warranted.

Edited to include #47 Olivia Anderson who I omitted, and who is way too low, IMO.

Hey, I thought I told you guys to stay out of Washington! I know E-burg very well, spent my college years there. It's just a hop, skip and a jump from Cashmere, so Geno and staff should be able to find their way there.

How do we know that these players are "players of interest"? Seriously, I have no idea. Just curious.

In the case of those five it's based off social media follows by UConn coaches.

There's a recruit thread you know? ;)

Edit: Actually, I think interest in Edwards is based on a local article, the rest on social media.

Hey VG, not sure if you know this but while I am sure UCF is a fine school it is not in the IVY Conference with Princeton and Yale...just sayin’ ;)

Ah. Thank you. Yes, I know of the recruit thread. But honestly, it quickly gets to so many pages early each month that it's nearly impossible for someone who is not reading it twice a day to slog through.

But I appreciate this. Never knew who the list was created. Thank you!

With so much basketball canceled over the past year, how much stock can we put in these rankings? They were already subjective to begin with. Wouldn't players who haven't gotten to play much due to COVID at a huge disadvantage?
