I am surprised to say this about a Kim Mulkey team. But LSU is sloppy with their execution and it’s really hard to understand exactly what they are trying to do on offense. They fixed the rebounding problem that plagued them in the loss to KY. But against Vandy, LSU turned it over 22 times with Fulwiley leading the way with 5 turnovers in her 1st start at LSU. Kim must be apoplectic.

This makes sense

Then, there were 5, Texas hosts Ole Miss tomorrow, LSU plays at Vanderbilt and Iowa State hosts Baylor. Texas Tech doesn’t play until 1/7 at WVU

My prediction is only Vandy loses…
What?????

She’s really apoplectic about the missed call on Blakes that should have given LSU possession down two but instead resulted in a four point lead for Vandy with virtually no time left.

I made a similar point in a post on the Duke-ND game. But as others point out, Kim has won national championships playing an OOC schedule of cupcakes. The difference between those teams and this team is that she had a dominant frontcourt player: Griiener, Morrow, Reese, etc.

Koval & Joyner are both average players. Kim thought she had Serah Williams only to lose her to UConn. LSU still has to go up against the Big frontlines of TX & SC. Those games will not be pretty.

Morrow wasn’t on that LSU championship team. I would replace her with Lauren Cox, who was highly rated coming out of high school and a defensive force in the middle for Baylor’s 2019 championship.

Not as talented as some of her teams, yes, but they have a LOT of talent on that team. Physical talent, anyway.

There's something off about this team. The players aren't developing as they should. As Nan pointed out just above, Koval was highly touted out of high school, but isn't developing into the player we expected. Flau'je doesn't seem to have improved in the last couple of years. Dawn wasn't making a lot of progress with Fulwiley, and I dunno if Kim thought she could, but she hasn't so far.

The soft schedule likely has something to do with it, but there's more. Maybe it's just a really bad mix of personalities? Maybe it's just the wrong players for Kim's style? I don't know, but I don't expect Kim to garner any coach-of-the-year votes unless something drastic happens, which is always possible.

I disagree with this. Both a very talented but are just not playing their best.

Geno recruited Koval who chose ND instead. I feel badly for her that she hasn’t optimized her abilities
Whatever adjective you want to use to describe Koval & Joyner, there is literally no comparison to Griener, Cox, Reese & Morrow imo.

Against the teams that LSU had played before Kentucky the only one that helps them is the Duke win. This team didn't have to play team basketball against the 13 teams from "Mother's of the Poor". The playground basketball that they played against 13 of her non-conference wins doesn't work against teams like Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

Mulkey won one championship with Brittney Griner, a 2 time national player of the year, and the highly talented PG Odyssey Sims, who seemed overlooked with Griner getting all of the attention

In 2005, Baylor won with 6-1 F Sophia Young leading a team that had no one over 6-2
In 2012, Baylor won with Griner and Sims
In 2019, Baylor won with Lauren Cox and Queen Egbo but I’d argue that the wing, DiDi Richards, was the star on the team that year
In 2023, LSU won with Angel Reese
