To be fair, Roy has been doing coaching for about 40 years. And I think he’s actually gotten better since the talent dip the last 5 years. Or at least he has shown more. But the story of the year so far has been Luke Maye. Even after Kentucky, I didn’t see this jump up in production. He was a diamond-in-the-rough.

They beat Western Carolina 104-61, a cupcake! Of course UNC looked great.

I went to the UNC game last night. Give the current UCONN players to Roy Williams for six months and they would be ranked somewhere between 11 and 20. The passing, cutting, and effort reminded me of the UCONN women. A ballet.

Roy Williams has how many high ranked recruits. He's overrated we will never know if he could do anything with these guys he's never had anything less than Top 50 recruits crawling to him so they don't have to take any classes.

Stupid post.

When was the last time we beat a team by 40? Genuinely curious if anyone knows the answer.

2010-2011 team won by 36 in the ncaa tourney

But isnt that the point? That he can get good recruits and win, year after year.

No it's not. UNC and UConn recruiting has typically been apples to oranges. JC certainly in the Big East days had some good ones, different world I'm afraid. Roy's had great players knocking in his door to come wear the powder blue. He should've won a lot more with what's been handed to him.

Now I agree with the generic version of your post, we should be recruiting better/smarter and winning no doubt but to watch UNC vs West Carolina and post this is worthless. Not sure where he was when UNC scored 45 against MSU posting about their "ballet" of an effort? LOL

Again, the star on this squad is a 3-star recruit. I think there are only 3 top 50 recruits on the team (freshman Felton and seniors Berry and Pinson), none of them top 10 talent. UNC has until recently been in a slump as far as recruiting goes, relatively speaking. Class rankings of 10, 70, 14, and 18 according to 247.

I get the West Carolina part. I was just saying I wish that we were at their level consistently

Ollie hasn't had this roster for 6 months

He's practiced with them just over two months, and played with them for one month

So no, UNC is not killing us in recruiting, they just develop their recruits.

What is this development word you speak of? It sounds intriguing.

And they don’t transfer or go to class. Fair is fair

Not a ton, actually. As @kmacri12 pointed out, we've had higher rated classes than UNC two out of the last three years.

For my money Williams is the best offensive coach I've ever seen in college ball, and it doesn't matter if his team is filled with 5-star studs or a bunch of borderline 4-stars. They pass, screen, cut and shoot the lights out. It's beautiful basketball.

The one thing he doesn't do, though, is get 5-star NBA-ready players. He hasn't put an all-star into the league since he arrived at UNC, and his only all-star to come from Kansas was Pierce. Dude is just a pure college coach.

UNC is probably not the best comparison. I look at Tennessee who is recruiting a a similar level to UConn at this point. They had more challenging NCAA issues than UConn with Donnie Tyndall and Bruce Pearl and had Conzo Martin bail on them. There team was in the doldrums prior to the hiring of Rick Barnes and their recruiting classes are full of 3-stars. Barnes has them playing with focus and intensity and they have broken into the top 25 with their only loss being to Nova after being up by 12 at halftime.

But but but...they are in a better conference than us so it's easier for them to be good. /s
