Magnus Carlson VS. American Hirkaru Nakamura

Today is the final day of rapid chess.

It has back and forth non stop.

It will be over soon. One more rapid game and if it is drawn, it comes down to blitz (5 minute chess)

Nakamura has 6 minutes on his clock in a slightly worse position.

Fighting to stay alive to get to the blitz penalty kick overtime.

HIkaru wins the first blitz game.

Now, a win or draw by Hikaru and Magnus goes down.

Magnus in a "win on demand" situation.

Lots of pressure on the world champion

The World Champion wins on demand.

This is too insane.

We go to armageddon

One game for all the marbles.

White gets 5 minutes
Black gets 4 minutes but a draw is victory for black.

Magnus picks Black.

No increment. It will be over in 9 minutes.

Just learned the rules a few months ago during quarantine. I’ve become a nerd about the game. Even in the process of building a vertical chess board for my man cave.

hahaha that's awesome. Yea when i started playing a few years ago when someone would flag me(play bad chess but fast to win on time), I would challenge them to a rematch and then use this other computer engine to never miss a move cuz 'em. Lesson to learn - Chess.com has excellent cheat detection!

for real tho now i use a new london based sn - bankstbully - but don't flag me or else you'll get me banned again

Hop on now and let's play

Blackmar Diemer? For real?
Few know what that is... Now, I have to watch it. I studied that 28 years ago. Never could play that against masters. With experts it was dicey. Class A and below it was pretty effective unless they studied it.

I just transpose into a french but if anyone at my level played it, I would come up with a way to punish it.

It is kinda crap. I would rather play the Danish or Evans Gambit
