UMES Post Game Thread

I thought a lot of the guys who had question marks stepped up which I'm very happy with. Mahaney was much improved and made some really good passes. Ross looked more engaged on defense than I remember seeing him and ended up with a double-double. Stewart and Nowell both did about what I expected from them, in a good way.

McNeeley got 16 on a rough shooting night, but was perfect (7/7) from the line. He can shoot no question about it, the 3s just haven't been dropping since the Colorado game; gotta think that hip is still bothering him a little

My only real criticism was the number of fouls. Solo and Hass both had 3 very early in the 2nd half. Diarra in particular had some that I don't love seeing from our most experienced player.

I just expect him to make the open ones. He really hasn’t done that consistently. Mind you, we don’t come back against Memphis without him. But he missed a lot of shots today I am used to our shooters making.
Yeah tonight wasn't good. Not to make excuses for him but as someone above said it looks like that hip he injured in Maui was bothering him.

It seemed we were overplaying on defense and were able to cut down the numbers of blow byes..........maybe wishful thinking I know but we'll find out more on Wednesday.

Maybe we watched different games but Mahaney was still bad on D besides a couple deflections and Ross was pretty good and was very active on D. I do agree on Ball. LOL! I did like that Mahney was attacking the basket.
I said Aiden wasn’t as good as some here thought, but I must say, I like it when he drives, he’s actually better than I thought at it he just hasn’t been able to finish yet, but they look good. I think he’s on to something. I feel like he will find his niche on offense but defensively I’m worried. But honestly Cam and Joey looked bad on D when they first got here so who knows.

This was a throw away game. Not sure what you learn against this caliber of talent, feels like the Washington Generals and that may be insulting to the Generals. It doesn’t train the right types of muscles (both mental and physical) to go up against real teams. Intrasquad scrimmages infinitely more valuable.

What’s important now is that this team finds a way to win a couple of the next 3 OOC games, starting with what is a crucial Baylor game for this early in the season. Otherwise the resume will be really flimsy come March. There may just not be enough on the BE slate to get much traction back unless we sweep the couple teams making any noise in OOC play. BE/B12 showdown coming up of which I’m not holding my breath on, but crossing fingers.

First NET coming out Monday. I might open it with one squinted eye.

Ross got smoked on defense several times. His athleticism and teammates bailed him out more than once. He can’t just rely on one or two highlight reel plays per game.
Check back in a month, see where he is. Then check back a month after that. I’ll bet you’ll be smiling.

If it takes a month for any of these guys we may be a bubble team.

Guy on TNT said scary news from the game today with Alex Karaban banging his head with 2 minutes left in the game and being rushed to the hospital.

Was this our first Peacock game? I missed it how was the broadcast?

Can't compare Cam. He is was much more physical players and can use his body. Joey C thought is a good comparison but actually think Joey was quicker than him.

Abraham needs more minutes. Team is too slow and not very athletic and it shows, especially on defense. Abraham brings much needed physical play

Baylor game is huge. Fans are running out of patience.

ok, what's an MTE, and why doesn't he ever want to play one again?
MTE means "multi-team event", which was something I had never heard until last season, even though things described as MTEs have existed for ages. The Maui Invitational was our MTE for this season.

You can probably guess why he's not itching to do one again right now.

I don't know how he doesn't keep playing MTEs. Every single P5 school played in one this year. Only 16 teams, all mid-majors, did not participate in one.

I didn't see the clip, so I don't know how he said it, but I doubt he's being serious. Not participating in MTEs would make it a lot harder to get enough good matchups in the early season.

I predicted he's never going back to Maui, this is even bigger. I liked going to the Battle for Atlantis. A little bummed

But I'm a Dan man. It is what it is

That would include the Battle for Atlantis. Might mean we're in NYC more often, that's a good thing

Was the XL Center floor totally full of dust or condensation tonight?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the players cleaning off their shoes as much as I witnessed tonight. Also, the floor sweepers were running the whole length of the court during every break.
The floor sweeper that I was watching lifted his mop on one pass before he got to the baseline. He needs to go back to sweeping school.

Multiple Team Events

It appears he's talking about 3 games in 3 days tournaments.

Doesn't like losing, no time for adjustments, didn't like his treatment in Maui (98-48 matters). He saw how frustrated his kids were by the third game.

Pure speculation on my part

Hurley feels they have a huge advantage in scouting and prep. You lose that advantage after your first game in an MTE.

and that too

This team doesn’t have two months worth of major minutes to give Ross so he can figure himself out. Like the kid and think he eventually learns to play within himself but right now he’s not the answer and Liam/Alex/stew are all ahead of him (also no he can’t play the 1 or 2).

If this is at all part of the reason they don’t want to do MTEs it’s really weak sauce.

Also love Dan Hurley but don’t remember him complaining about MTEs when we won the Nike thing etc
Not disagreeing. Just repeating what I've heard. Also, that tournament had a day off in between Games 2 and 3.
