UMass is a problem for us. Everyone keeps saying they are our rival but having any association with them just brings us down. I would prefer we stop playing them until at least we land in a football conference.
How about we start beating them easily on a consistent basis before we start claiming they are "bringing us down". Kind of an odd comment to make after we just played them and were down at the half and an onside kick recovery away from them having a chance to win the game.....

Overall a pretty awful defensive performance. However, they came out of the half and shut down UMass in the 3Q. Things started falling apart in the fourth but the offense was still in gear and had us up.

Can't say enough about Edwards and Robinson. Those two are monsters. I like Brown but he's a different type of back. It was nice to see Edwards get a bulk of the workload. I don't feel like we've seen that that often this season. Not saying Robinson doesn't deserve it. It's just nice to see him healthy enough to get it today.

Overall, we beat who we were supposed and went 8-4. We won a few toss ups and we're close to beating Wake and in it until the end with Duke, on the road. This team has hit its first benchmark IMO. Next step is win the games they should win easier and beat some low level P4 teams.

On to bowling!

8-4 was the closest we've been to an undefeated season in a while (not counting our undefeated COVID season), and I'm extremely happy about it!

The job that the players and coaching staff have done here over the last couple of years has been terrific, and I finally have real hope in sustained success again with the people here now.

Pride. Heart. UCONN.

On to the bowl game!

We’ve played them 78 times dating back to 1897. Closest FBS school and old Yankee rivals. Doesn’t really matter that we’re a tier above them; it’s still a legitimate rivalry
Nobody pined to play UMass after we moved up to IA. Someone raise their hands if they even thought of UMass football. OK Scooter you can put your hand down. Now, after a decade+ of suck we are tight. Not sure everyone flew into see this one. They were a Yankee Conference football rival as was URI. In fact, we have played them much more than UMass.

Central hung with Rhody. Was flipping between that and us today. Not sure we would cover against those 2 if we played them next week. And yes, I hate we are playing the likes of UMass yearly at this point in time.

Didn't have espn+, didn't bother with radio. Switched back and forth between Boneyard chat and Stat link from UConn website. Cumbersome but effective. You guys were great, occasionally short on detail but from what I heard, better than the UMass announcers. Thanks for getting me through it.

Posted earlier, awesome year of progress. Only non competitive in MD game, 3 coulda shoulda wouldas with Duke, WF and Cuse along with a potpourri of blowouts and close ones with "inferior" opponents. More than got the job done.

Bowl win, NIL, and recruit your butts off! Go Huskies.
Yup, NIL support by all of us on the board will enable us to hit the portal hard to get more talent.

We would beat both handily.

Rivalry games are good because they are somewhat unpredictable. Often closer than they should have any right to be. And they can be very one sided, yet still be exciting. Texas leads the series 76-37 but it is still a rivalry. Colorado- Colorado St is like 70-20 but is important for both teams. This one is 38-38-2. Going forward I hope we win 3/4 of them. But that doesn’t mean it will be less of an intense rivalry. It clearly is a big deal for UMass.

Playing UMass makes complete sense. Rival or not. The MAC is a very respectible conference and UConn being in a conference or not, we should always play them. But not in basketball for sure.

Texas leads the series with A&M 76-37 but it is still a rivalry. Colorado leads the series with CState 69-22 but it is still a rivalry. They don’t need to be even. Just exciting. I am hopeful we ‘ll always be the big brother from now on.. doesn’t mean it cant be a big deal.

Not talking about the game play. It getting lumped in with them as a pair. Whether we are good or not, we get tied to them because they are "our rival". Now we not only have the Civil Conflict debacle (which was our own doing) but we will be tied to another trophy joke going forward. If that is what we get out of the relationship, no thanks.

WE have plenty of talent but it still down to having the best QB on the field. Put McCord on UConn and it would be unreal. This is the biggest need for us. I hope Welliver can be that guy but this is our greatest hole to fill.

No thanks. They do nothing for us. There are a lot of respectable conferences with plenty of teams way more intriguing than UMass. There is no need to build New England rivalries as New England as a football region has been dead for a long time at this level.
Otherwise we should drop down and play FCS. Then we could go nuts with the regional play.

Having a home and home that is bus trip is pretty cost effective. Of course, they are not the biggest draw at the Rent. But they are somewhat of a brand in New England. It gets good media coverage. Not the worse opponent on our schedule.

First or second series. I also think Wright barely played, and Gourdine didn’t. That’s a good chunk of the defense to be without.
Gourdine broke his foot mid-week and has surgery scheduled for Monday.

I agree completely. UMass may raise their FB profile now that they’re in the MAC. Which may in the long run increase interest.

You don’t understand the economics of playing a school an hour and half away. We played several MAC schools when we were in the Big East for football. And, your FCS comment makes zero sense. It’s like having a discussion about the taste of apples and bringing up the taste of oranges.

We play MAC, AAC, CUSA nearly every season.

Why not play the one that's an hour away and that we have history with. You make zero sense. But let's travel Ball State or Akron instead. Silly.
No how about we get some variety instead of living in the past. Stupid.

Back home from a long and exhausting day which started in the wee hours when my band finished playing a late gig that started the night before. I was home for about a 3 hour “nap” before getting up at 6am to pack up my tailgate stuff and meet our tailgate crew for the drive up Amherst. After football, I drove back to Hartford to attend the men’s hoop game at XL. Great day to be a UConn fan!!

As for the football game, I was impressed by the crowd considering the weather - especially the number of UConn fans there. To say that the stadium and atmosphere is quirky is a huge understatement. I don’t want to hear another complaint about the Rent’s PA system after listening to whatever they were announcing through. But it was pretty cool to be so close to the field. We were practically right on the UConn sideline.

I could clearly hear Tui Faumiuna-Brown shout an obscenity when he slammed his helmet down after being helped off the field during the first series. He went in the tent and emerged several minutes later getting a hug and encouraging words from Mora. He spent the remainder of the game on the sideline without his helmet.

The defense just did not look the same as it did in the first series or frankly as it did during the whole season once Brown was out. I think it took Brock getting to halftime to make the necessary adjustments. Scary to think what would happen if McDonald went out with a game ending injury.
