Geez guys, you're being a little harsh. As a New Englander, I think restoring a UMass/UConn rivalry would be good. Calipari is long gone...

What do you think as a UConn fan? The UMass athletic department has badmouthed UConn whenever they could over the years, probably moreso after the Squid cut and ran. Why would you reward those jackoffs with the privilege of playing us? The FB game is bad enough.

I honestly have not thought about Umass' basketball team for 15 years. There has been no reason to. The points you bring up here are lame. The NIT is not moving in the right direction, even for Umass. Get to the Sweet 16 of the NCAAs, and then come back and post about moving in the right direction.

As for the underdog comment, I'll just leave that alone... you play in the A10

with syracuse, pitt. and west virginia bolting, and when you look at who's coming in to replace them, you might want to be careful what you say about the A10. thank heavens those catholic schools( except one,of course) don't play football.

thou dost protest too much ! i'm hardly a umass fan. rather looking for a little new england rivalry, since there really isn't one at the moment. it should be rather apparent to observant basketball people that this umass team is a good team, one which returns most of its players next year. as i said, though, calhoun certainly isn't going to take any chances playing them.
There are quite a few New England schools to create a rivalry with. What was the response on the BC board? The PC board?

The reality is that f UConn is going to agree to a home and home series with a non-conference opponent, that opponent must have a much higher national profile than UMass or our new AD is not doing his job. I imagine that you already know this.

Additionally, the series that ended around the time that Calipari began showing some success in building the UMass program was signed before Jim Calhoun became UConn's head coach. More to the point, when it became apparent that the contract was going to expire without being renewed there wasn't a peep out of Calipari about it. He kept quiet until the day arrived when he felt he could spin it in his favor (by pretending to want the series renewed) and in his public stance he was far more willing to accomodate the series than he was behind closed doors.

If UMass is willing to join the list of local schools travelling to Storrs or Hartford, I imagine UConn can find room to schedule them on a semi-regular basis. I have a feeling that this arrangement won't work for UMass so the New England rivalry that you want will require a different opponent. We have limited room in our non conference schedule for road games and cannot waste any on a local mid-major.

Look at who will be it he big east post those teams leaving... Still a very very good basketball conference, if not the best top to bottom, still the most competitive, still 7 teams dancing at a minimum. Stop just regurgitating every bs storyline your read from pat forde and other haters and do some thinking. Big east is still a fantastic league, and we just took the only decent program besides xavier in the a-10 too with temple joining. Add Memphis. 9 or 10 bid league still. A-10 will then be a one or if youre really lucky and xavier loses the conf tourney, a 2 bid league

Because UConn is better than acting as immature as UMass is and show them up by being the class act and showing them that such actions don't faze them.

This isn't junior high, junior. Too many other fish in the sea to do business with instead of an entity that tries to build themselves up by tearing us down.

meh, my attitude towards UMass goes back to the Calipari/Flint days. Back then there was a message board specifically for the UConn/UMass rivalry. It was no hold barred, down and dirty, insult your mother type of board. In short...it was a lot of fun to trade barbs with the unwashed miscreants from up north.

First of all, if you haven't thoght about Umass in 15 years you would have no interest in participating in this thread. And exactly what points are lame? Moving in the right direction means improvement. Umass' record under DK shows dramatic improvement this year: '09 12-18, '10 12-20, '11 15-15 and '12 23-11 & counting. Umass has not made it to a post season tourney since '08 when they went to the NIT finals against Ohio St. The Sweet 16 could be considered a goal for many. It looks like we would be closer to that goal than the last few years. We lose only one player to GRADUATION next year. You might want to look that word up? How is that not moving in the right direction?

As for my underdog comment, I won't leave that one alone. Because I firmly beleive that Uconn was much more talented than us this year. However, your team was sooo distracted more often not, you were lucky to find the court. Given your current situation, I just can't see that improving next year. But that doesn't matter cause we don't play each other.

BTW, Umass plays Seton Hall tomorrow at 11:00 AM. You might want to watch before you make your next ignorant comment regarding a team you obviously know nothing about.

This reminds me of a story I read this morning. It shows how classless and obnoxious Kentucky fans are. How much of that is due to being from Kentucky and how much of that has to do with the squid being their coach, I'm not sure but I know that, from my persepctive, they seemed to get worse in the calimari era. Here is a quote:

"Early in the first half of Kentucky's game against Western Kentucky on Thursday evening, as the Wildcats tried to scrape the 16th-seeded Hilltoppers from the bottom of their sneakers, a chorus of boos arrived without warning.
From the upper reaches of the KFC Yum! Center to the lower bowl, thousands of UK fans made their displeasure known to the 14 players walking slowly to their seats three rows behind the baseline. They wore dark blue sweatsuits and a school logo despised by Kentucky followers.
UConn."

Sounds like umess fans to me. What is the common link? Hmmmmmmmmm.

I don't have a problem with that Huskymaniac. UK fans were booing because we beat them last year....TWICE. And the second time we basically took a National title away from them.

As for Clothy - yawn. NIT games at 11am are perfect for umass.

They're playing in Walsh Gymnasium for only the 2nd time in 11 years. Clothy, don't let the bright lights of the big time blind you.

Clothy all your comments ring hollow considering you are a fan of a team that, first, has lost 29 of the last 30 games to us. Second, your team hasn't made the big dance in 15+ years. Third you are criticizing a team that has 3 NC's over the past 13 years. And, technically, we are defending champs for at least a few more weeks.
My point is you, as a UMass fan, have little ammo to effect a UConn fan. If you see something on a UConn board that you don't like, regarding your school, it's better for you to bite your tounge than to fight back.
Yes, UConn has had a disapointing season. But, less than 1 year ago we won the NC. Plus, we still made the big dance this year. With that in our recent past, whatever a fan from a team that lost 29 of the past 30 to us, and the team that hasn't made the big dance in 15+ years cannot really say much to effect UConn fans, and doesn't have much ammo to defend UMass. And UMass gets little criticizm here as opposed criticizm for UConn on your board.
BTW, good luck vs the Hall tomorrow, AM. I find that I have little loyalty to fellow BE teams considering most, including UConn, are chomping at the bit for either the ACC, B1G, or B-12

Your team sucks, and has always sucked apart from one year. And that final four was vacated. Your team is irrelevant and will stay that way. You should change teams. I recommend you support a team that matters, and wins. Maybe uconn.

And no, I will not pay attention or care about the nit. It is for very sad terrible basketball teams

And you are stupid. Your recommendation is to be a fair weather fan? And I should root for a team that is moving towards irrelevance? Your first round loss tells me you didn't even belong in the NCAAs Their are a few teamsin the NIT that whooped you and you won't pay attention to it 'til you are stuck their for several years. Bye now!

what? why?

there are about 50 other programs that we can choose from, UMass is not on anyone's radar (well, except for a rare exception)

Didn't URI win the NIT not long ago? I don't remember any of their fans griping about the importance of a New England rivalry.

If UMass does well in the NIT, fine. If not, fine. Either way, each school will have different things to concern themselves about in the offseason than whether the two should start playing again.

Sometimes Clothy just doesn't know when to bow out...........

Hey guys the Uconn WOMEN play in Walsh Gymnasium vs The Hall all the time!!! Those are by far the biggest games played there and still will be after today ends...

Duke and Missouri lost to 15 seeds in the first round. Maybe umess is better than them too. They must be headed toward irrelevance. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

I tried being somewhat diplomatic with Clothy when he comes over here. Yes, some here are extremely hard on UMass. But, it's minor compared to what is being said about UConn on a UMass board.
UMass fans, along with PC fans have been trying to sound the death knell for UConn over these past 25+ years. To their dismay, it ain't happening.
To fans of both teams, at least make the NCAA's before you come over here.

Haven't been on their boards so thanks for the update. This is purely speculative on thier end but mostly "hoping" there is a demise from the Husky farm. No matter, if it is for a year the story will be great when they return in 2014 I promise - hope it doesn't happen but I will like JC and his team the year they come out. UMAss and PC won't but we as fans will that's for sure!

Umass has a basketball board? Is a forum necessary for their 5 or 10 fans? Surely they could just meet up for coffee or something?

I remember in 1999 when "fatty El Amin" led UConn to their "fluke" championship. Uass fans said it would never happen again. Remember "Ucan't"? Bunch of brain surgeons over there.......

24-11

Another nice win and pretty impressive...they are playing well.

I know you guys haven't had much tourney experience just know you did not play the same Seton Hall team that was in the Big East....if you think they had the same heart and drive as a noon game vs UConn at the Meadowlands during the season, you're wrong. Nonetheless a win is a win and the Minutedudes play on...good for you!
