in double OT. it's about time uconn-umass was revived, but , of course, not in calhoun's time.
Not only that, but to mention that they should resume a series just because they won an NIT game? How about they string together some NCAA Tourney berths first?I guess this shows how far the UMass program has fallen. A UMass fan has to come on the UConn board and brag about a first round NIT win. That's below bad.
thou dost protest too much ! i'm hardly a umass fan. rather looking for a little new england rivalry, since there really isn't one at the moment. it should be rather apparent to observant basketball people that this umass team is a good team, one which returns most of its players next year. as i said, though, calhoun certainly isn't going to take any chances playing them.

He's still getting better recruits than UMass, right? And your '13 ban along with the impending retirement of your coach isn't helping the program.
To be very honest, I no longer care if Umass ever plays Uconn again. I would be interested if they did though. We've had some issues but it looks to be the past and we're moving in the direction. I don't even consider us underdogs if we faced Uconn in the future. I think we would have gave you a game this year. And your '13 ban along with the impending retirement of your coach isn't helping the program. We'll see? Good luck against Iowa St.
The rivalry is still there. I think it is very possible games will be played in the near future. UMass seems intent on making sure their athletic department is in the top-tier (FBS, at least) and they are the second best public school in New England.Geez guys, you're being a little harsh. As a New Englander, I think restoring a UMass/UConn rivalry would be good. Calipari is long gone and we've had our way with him in the recent years. I don't understand all of the ill-will to an obviously different program than it was in the 90s.
Well, first of all, UConn's New England rivalry is with Providence. It's not only a league game vs NE rivals but they (PC) win around 50% of the time. That's a rivalry. With UMass we've beaten them 29 of the last 30 games we've played. That's not much of a rivalry.thou dost protest too much ! i'm hardly a umass fan. rather looking for a little new england rivalry, since there really isn't one at the moment. it should be rather apparent to observant basketball people that this umass team is a good team, one which returns most of its players next year. as i said, though, calhoun certainly isn't going to take any chances playing them.
Couple of things Clothy. First, that '13 ban is not definate yet. Latest reports have 13 tourney teams not being elegible for '13 due to APR issues. That includes Syracuse & FSU. I do believe the NCAA will revise the years to a later date to give programs time to get up to snuff. To be very honest, I no longer care if Umass ever plays Uconn again.
