UDFA Eric Watts to New York Jets | The Boneyard

UDFA Eric Watts to New York Jets

Watts has an NFL body and athleticism. But he needs skills. He will be a project. If he takes the coaching, he could have a very long, productive and lucrative career. Best of luck.

Hoping at least for practice squad and the coaching...

Practice squad gives him a chance but it’s a very tenuous existence. Hopefully he’s working over time with some great private coaching because he has to improve fast.

Am I wrong or is that a lot to get guaranteed as a UDFA?
It’s up there but if you scroll through Wilson’s timeline above there are more than a couple north of $225k

That’s a great amount to get! Sometimes it’s more money to go as an udfa then get started in the 6-7th round!
Plus you and your agent choose the team you think you have the best chance to make the roster! His agent did his job! Great for him!

I mean the team that signs you as an UDFA kinda has some control over what the agent and player get to do.

As a pats fan I hate this, but the Jets is a great spot to land for a defensive player.

Man. Udfa gets over $200k. He’s minimum practice squad, but at his cost I can see them making him a backup and developing.

NFL teams don’t waste money if they don’t feel there is potential. And at the price he got as an Udfa, there was competition.

The UFL drafted Watts as well.

Fifth round: Memphis Showboats: DE Eric Watts, UCONN

Watts was getting a lot of love at the Senior Bowl and maybe also the combine I believe. Surprised he didn't go late on the draft. Good to see his making teams regret not taking him and making a case for a roster spot on the Jets.
