Notre Dame has learned them and defended them very well last night. The hand-off outside the 3pt line was interrupted all night long. ND refused to just let UConn go thru its "motions". The inbound pass that Diggins stole was the perfect example and of course the Doty traps.

Good coaching by Muffett. Good execution by her team.

On the other hand, UCONN disrupted ND's offense quite a bit too. Only problem is when it breaks down, Diggins or McBride can go 1v1 and create their own.

Faris did as good a job as any last night doing that, but that's not really her game. It's Hartley's game, but she isn't back to her form and she fouled out.

I think ND ran some nice back cuts and on broken plays ND is going to have their way

As well as ND played UConn shouldve won the game and without 30+ turnovers in regulation UConn shouldve won by alot. The more we lose games of this magnitude ND twice and Baylor we are learning. It is very frustrating for the players too. This will make them stronger mentally and make them better for having losses like this. Yeah it hurts and yeah its tuff to bounce back but they will and will be better because of it.

ND has been defending the high post hand off for years by adding pressure to our ball handlers who seem to get frazzled. Happened against Baylor as well. Diggins and Simms "ate up" our guard's dribbling skills.

UConn ran a few nifty backdoor plays as well.
Faris showed some shot making that I had not seen before. And ran that give and go with Dolson; Fool me once shame on you. Fool me all game long...:D

Some players just have teams they love to complete against (e.g., DT and Tennessee). The only thing that gives me confidence that UConn can beat ND one, two more times (if needed) is that Kelly Faris comes up huge every time we play them, starting with the January 2011 game in South Bend where she beat them on a backdoor cut to the hoop with the clock running down.

Faris and Tuck did do a good job going 1v1 against their defense; we did a better job last night scoring on ND off the dribble than we have anytime during the last two years, IMO. That's something the team should feel confident about and build on. It may not be part of Faris' regular repertoire, but she should look to do it more often going forward.

We lost the game on self-inflicted wounds: turnovers. Cut five of them and we win going away. That probably means Ironwoman Faris handling the ball more in late game situations if Hartley is in foul trouble and Jefferson not yet ready.

Only in part. Some were straight giveaways. Some bad passing decisions. ND played good D but so did UConn. UConn had ND beat and did not close out the game 3 times at the end of regulation, and the first two overtimes. Most of those had little to do with anything ND was doing. ND's play put them in the position to compete but we let them off the hook with the foul shooting and one horrid call by DeMayo.

UConn gave ND plenty of extra possessions.

Very true, although I think Geno would gladly take what happened last night in terms of McBride and Diggins. They combined to make 22 out of 59 shots. That's 37 missed shots. UConn gave up too many offensive rebounds (ND had 21 second chance points), but forcing Diggins and McBride in to that level of inefficiency is something Geno would gladly accept. But for McBride's 3-pointer (KML played no defense on that), UConn forced ND to make tough shots in the half court. He didn't press them as in the first game.

It was at the other end of the court (TOs and missed FTs) where this game was lost.

Yes, KML needed to be up in McBride's face on that. I guarantee she is well aware of that. On the other hand as you said ND shot terrible, including McBride and Diggins. Even that important shot was closer to being out than in as it hit the front rim hard and got a great bounce. On such threads do victories sometimes hang.
