Good coaching by Muffett. Good execution by her team.
On the other hand, UCONN disrupted ND's offense quite a bit too. Only problem is when it breaks down, Diggins or McBride can go 1v1 and create their own.
Faris did as good a job as any last night doing that, but that's not really her game.
Some players just have teams they love to complete against (e.g., DT and Tennessee). The only thing that gives me confidence that UConn can beat ND one, two more times (if needed) is that Kelly Faris comes up huge every time we play them, starting with the January 2011 game in South Bend where she beat them on a backdoor cut to the hoop with the clock running down.
Faris and Tuck did do a good job going 1v1 against their defense; we did a better job last night scoring on ND off the dribble than we have anytime during the last two years, IMO. That's something the team should feel confident about and build on. It may not be part of Faris' regular repertoire, but she should look to do it more often going forward.
We lost the game on self-inflicted wounds: turnovers. Cut five of them and we win going away. That probably means Ironwoman Faris handling the ball more in late game situations if Hartley is in foul trouble and Jefferson not yet ready.
