One of the worst takes ever lol

Well he did say that and that he is fully committed to the AAC and football. Incredibly frustrating. That and the fact that we suck is even more frustrating. What better way to react than "YAAAAAY!!!"?

If you think there's anything else he could have said publicly on day 1 you're out of your mind.

Not a good look lying either if he was thinking otherwise. He should have answered the question in a way that left it open for interpretation.

UConn is the most important school in a conference that is in the middle of negotiations for TV money. If UConn leaves the deal is significantly less than if UConn stays. It's important to get as much money as possible from this deal if UConn gets stuck. So no you don't be ambiguous about it, you lean into it, and then should a lifeline come you bounce and nobody blames you anyhow

Just curious how that's a bad look? Would you really be upset that he lied if he ended up getting us into the P5?

Well in that case no I would not be upset at all. But lying is not a good look period for anyone in a high position like himself. Happens in politics all the time. He would be risking his trustworthiness.

Here's hoping it won't revealed that newly named UConn President Thomas Katsouleas wore blackface while in the Old Dominion. That seems to be a problem for a lot of guys from Virginia these days!

Sounds like a perfect fit for an FBS basketball, hockey, soccer & baseball school.

You almost can’t make it up. The school was funded by Connecticut taxpayers BECAUSE THEY WON AT BASKETBALL.

Our reward is bankrolling academics who won’t even give us decent basketball while they pay their cronies off.

Yet out of state chuckleheads lecture us every step of the way.
Tommy Waterpolo doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well as Suzy Lax, does it?

He did just that. He has no plans to leave the AAC, mostly because none exists. If the opportunity came up, though, you can be confident that we'd jump on it.

Well, it rolls a bit smoother than Θωμάς υδατοσφαίριση or even Thomakos Water Polo.

It's not a lie when there's no better alternative presently on the table. The AAC is unfortunately our best option under present circumstances. His remarks were intended to derail the crowd that wants football dropped so we can join the new Big Least Conference.

Regardless of how anyone feels about the football program one way or the other....

Who on earth thinks he'd say anything else publicly?

Contrary to popular belief, errr - the insane ramblings on an internet message board, it is rumored there are perhaps more important things to consider as the president of a state university than their atheltic programs, at least 2 of the 3 most prominent of which seem to be doing ok at the moment.

The university budget is $1.367 Billion. A bit more of a going concern than the athletic programs.

An ongoing loss of $40M in a $1.37B is a material item. Sports also has an direct impact on applications and thus revenue. It also is the university's biggest marketing effort. Conference affiliation also impact's a university's perceived an actual peers and research partners, which speaks directly to it's academic reputation. The athletic department is very relevant item to a university president. The most important? Probably not, but it is up near the top.

I agree with your sentiment- lawmakers and the school administration would rather us be Cal-Berkeley than Kentucky, and they hired with that in mind. Athletics might be priority #4 behind 1) increasing research funding and partnerships to prove the school's value to taxpayers, 2) breaking the USNWR rankings plateau of the last 5 years or so, and 3) getting Uconn Health's finances in order.

Flat out without Calhoun and Geno UConn does not get funded the way it did for the past few decades.

Sports are beneath these brilliant nerds - who aren’t bright enough to get their success in Hartford is greased by athletic success.

Far be it for me to stand in the way of the president fulfilling their important goal of enriching their cronies by noticing that if they actually want to be successful having good sprots teams makes that a a lot easier.
