In a rivalry game made only more bitter by last year’s Final Four, the second-ranked UConn women’s basketball team throttled No. 1 Notre Dame 89-71 inside Purcell Pavilion on Sunday to keep its regular season win streak alive.

It may have been a regular season game without a championship on the line, but the Huskies and Fighting Irish came to play. After a heartbreaking overtime buzzer beater in the Final Four, the Huskies wanted this win more than most. And Notre Dame wanted to prove they’re the reigning national champions for a reason.

No. 2 UConn women throttle No. 1 Notre Dame, 89-71, in Final Four rematch

UConn was able to get out to a quick start thanks to a huge first quarter from Williams. She scored 16 points in the first, oftentimes making crowd-silencing shots after the momentum seemed to swing Notre Dame’s way. With junior Crystal Dangerfield and senior Katie Lou Samuelson missing nearly all of their shots, Williams’ performance kept the Huskies in the lead. At the end of the quarter they were up 27-22.

TIP IN - UConn Nation will sleep real good tonight!! ;)

Arike 0 for 6 from 3pt. Of course, we weren't very good from 3, but we were good enough.

She sure didn't look like a freshman.

Remember what Christyn said during Geno’s golf tournament this past summer? She said (I’m paraphrasing) they’re going to feel UConn. She’s staying true to her word. ND indeed felt UConn Sunday.

UCONN's going to win the National Championship...
Or Chrystn's gonna die trying!:cool::rolleyes::D

@mbr33ct asked this question in the Arike thread that has since been closed.
Q: Does Shepard have a year remaining eligibility as a graduate transfer?
A: No she does not. Jessica spent her first 2 years playing at Nebraska, last year playing at ND after being made immediate eligible and is playing this season. Her next stop is WNBA.

Couldn't resist. CW when asked about playing in the biggest game of her college career, responded " I am born for this" !!!

Sorry, this should have been the right context:
"“Christyn is one of those rare individuals that comes along,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “She made a statement last summer that we’re going to win a national championship in [her] freshman year in Connecticut, and she felt bad about saying it but she really believed it. They asked her another question and she said ‘I was born for this.’ Some people just know who they are, and she knows who she is. She knows that’s who she is. "

Christyn has a winning attitude. Her attitude reminds me of DT.
