UConn WHOC 2025-26

The gap between good and bad women’s teams in basketball, hockey and soccer is much greater than the gap in the men’s.

Unfortunate………..but true. Big East women’s basketball is Exhibit A. Hockey East women’s hockey may be Exhibit B.

It is. On the other hand, Merrimack has kept all but four of their losses within 3 goals, and eight of their 17 losses have been by 2 goals or less. They may not be quite as bad as their record indicates.

They let 3 goals up in the final seconds this series. They lost at the buzzer to BC earlier in the year. And I was there when they allowed Yale to pepper Chan until the final buzzer (thankfully she saved them). This team plays too passive and slow in key moments. The fact northeastern was able to turn a puck against the boards into that game winner is further proof of it. McKenzie needs to figure it out vs northeastern because their coach is schooling him. And it’s not a great sign that coming off a terrible loss to Merrimack that we responded with getting swept on home ice. Too often Chan is being asked to stand on her head and bail them out.
