UConn vs SMU game thread

Quick thoughts on that half:

-Shireffs has decent numbers because of the scheme and strong play of his supporting cast. He missed an open guy to stall the opening drive, and again on that last drive. He has made no difficult throws; the skill players are getting YAC yardage. He is simply not a good quarterback and I would love to see this offense with better QB play.

-Beavers and Fortt both look like difference makers going forward and are badly needed on a defense lacking playmakers

-Mensah is playing like a true freshman

I can honestly say that SMU is not a better team than us. We've made about 3 mistakes that are responsible for the score right now.

Let's hope we clean it up and they don't...

Good teams don't make those mistakes and we have zero yards rushing.

That roughing the punter killed us in the first half. Can't be mad at how the D is playing compared to prior weeks. Some serious weapons on SMU's side of the ball and you can tell the D is playing with all they have. Shireffs has to play better in the second half. Better vision and better balls.

Courtland Sutton is regarded as one of the best receivers in college football. He's done well, but our D is holding things down overall.

25 offenses in CFB. He may not be great, but he's not terrible either. If we had any semblance of a D, we would very competitive.

My guess is he can see the field better and can rely on the defensive coaches on the field to make his adjustments.

Maybe, but it bothers me that most of his mistakes are mental. He's a 5th year senior. I would understand it from a young guy, but come on.

He’s not saying Sheriffs is terrible. Uconnbaseball is saying he’s inconsistent and needs to make the difficult throws.

As I watch them show some of the replays from the first half....we’re just not very physical on defense. Whether it’s in the pass rush, getting off blocks, or tackling, we don’t go through people.

I agree with that. The kid's taken a lot of abuse for being average.
