UConn vs Michigan (Championship)

How we played agianst Michigan is how Purdue wished they played against us in 2024. We didnt win. Michigan was too much. But we dictated a style. Made it close.

Against Purdue in 2024 we basically played the same game we had played in the previous tournament games
Do you think it helped that Michigan’s star was at 50%?

True enlightenment and wisdom is realizing that Juwan Howard’s incompetence is the source reason why UConn men’s basketball didn’t win Championship number seven.

His comment about Braylon making more $$ next year at UCONN vs the #15 pick in NBA. Is that accurate?
Seems a bit of an overshoot. 15th pick is estimated to make at least $3.88 million with a 4 year contract of $22M+

I don't think Braylon would get close to that. Best estimate I could find of what he made this year was a bit over $800K. Even if he doubles that, he's still well short of the 15th pick.

He very well could get that first number if he returns.

Thomas Sorber was the 15th pick of the '25 Draft and he's making $4.6M this year, $4.8M guaranteed for the following year. NBA rookie contracts are 4 years but only 2 years are guaranteed, the remaining 2 years are team options.

if you're looking at the math for a kid like Mullins - let's say he's worth abou 3mm this year as a top SG. I'd agree with a take that he's going to land anywhere between 15-30, let's fall on 22. That's a little under 3mm a year. If he comes back and cracks the top ten, he's then earning around 6mm/year. Over 4 years, you're looking at 27mm by staying (tech 5 years) vs 12mm by going.

That's a lot of dough. Plus you get to be the poster boy of CBB next year, as an astute poster pointed out. Vs being in the G league. Downside risk by staying is injury, stock not going up as hoped, etc. Hurley does make some sense in the fact he's better off staying unless he just wants out.

On the flip side, it didn't help that Silas had no offensive game at all post-injury (other than a couple threes against Duke he willed in). He was our best shot creator when healthy, and couldn't take advantage of Michigan's switching by attacking mismatches.

Wisconsin into the College Hockey Final. Let's watch Michigan win their half now, and the B10 make a collective sweep of the winter sports of any significance.

IDK if I saw the kind of game from Silas this year that gave me a lot of confidence he could create his own offense against Michigan's interior. He had a hard enough time against mortal bigs.

There was a lot to like about Silas' game this year: defense, 3 pt %, passing within our offensive sets. There was a lot that wasn't there - creating his own offense, unforced turnovers, having a plan when he drove into the paint, creating late in the clock, general floor management. As a whole, based on expectations, I'd give his body of work a B.

We get it.

The only teams that could have beaten this Michigan team were the '86 Celtics and '96 Bulls.

There were a few games in big east play where it looked like he was becoming closer to an alpha we could go to in order to create things - including midrange stuff in the paint if he couldn’t get to the rim. He’s certainly a better option at shot creation than anyone else we have (Solo or Braylon were more effective if they could get defenders rushing out to take a 3 away - less so when trying to beat someone playing them straight up). But the few times he tried an 8-10 footer post injury it wasn’t close. Or the few times he had lanes to the rim, he couldn’t exploit it. He had no lift and wasn’t the same player on offense.

I almost made this a separate post b/c fear of flak but after 3/4 days to think about it I think I can relate to how Michigan football fans felt after they beat Ohio State and Ohio State won the natty. You know the Buckeyes did not feel whole and for sure you can bet Duke is still in shock. Taking out Blue Devils in epic, iconic, never to be forgotten fashion is one helluva consolation prize after coming within a bogus hook/hold and missed transition bunny of a title while holding The Offense Of The Century to 20+ pts below their tourney average

Agreed. I keep thinking about the BYU game where he took over. I think he spent most of the rest of the season before the injury trying to figure out how much to facilitate and how much to create his own shot. It's a delicate balance that takes time to figure out.

Still thinking about the chance UConn had but unfortunately it slipped away. This was made worse by my layover in Detroit airport yesterday and seeing the Michigan natty shirts. But good season s nonetheless.
