Pitching was amazing tonight. Bullpen fulfilled their role. Took advantage of opportunities and this looks like a much different team than early March. Lineup and roles feel solidified. Onto the Heights tomorrow for BC

Had some family issues going on so had to miss the game. Nice to come here and follow the posts by @dbmill et al and see such a nice victory. Really improved my day.

Will be interesting to see if they can string some good pitching performances together. Five quality games this week, four on the road. If they can get 3 of the next 3, they should be moving up a lot in the RPI. (Having said that, and being glad they’re now stringing some wins together, I’m still not sold on the quality of the team but it’s wins that matter, not quality).

I’ll echo some comments made already, it was a solid win overall. I think the lineup is solidified outside of where to bat Studley( .079 risp). He was ur 3 hole hitter to start the season. To combine that with ur early season Fri night starter dilemma, I think it’s made for a steeper learning curve to get to know this team. Overall they seem much improved, even the woeful team BA is climbing to respectability.

Going on the road and getting a win today would really carry some weight, imo.

-> In a casual postgame conversation after Connecticut’s 4-0 win against Kansas State on Tuesday night, Huskies pitching coach Josh MacDonald recalled the message the coaching staff had for players a few weeks earlier, on the heels of a series loss to Rutgers that dropped UConn to 8-13 overall. The message went something like this: “If you think the four of us are going to quit, you’re out of your damn mind.”

UConn’s four coaches have been together for more than a decade, and during that period they’ve experienced their share of early-season adversity, as the cold-weather Huskies have annually played challenging road games against high-level warm-weather opponents. It’s not uncommon for teams from the Northeast to start slow under those circumstances, but UConn has made a habit of rallying later in the year and making postseason runs. And the Huskies seem to be following that same pattern in 2024. <-

-> But UConn’s strong pitching led the way Tuesday, as six Huskies combined to shut out a talented Kansas State offense. Senior lefty Garrett Coe started Tuesday after throwing just 54 pitches on Saturday, and he turned in three innings of shutout ball against K-State, mixing his 87-90 fastball with a very good 77-80 changeup.

“He begged us after his outing on Saturday, he said 54 pitches is nothing. We have an arm care system that we use, and his scores are almost always better the day after he throws — he’s a freak, his arm care and his arm health,” Penders said. “We wouldn’t normally do that, but we had [Ben] Schild down with a hip right now. … Also, [Coe’s] changeup is a little more effective when he’s tired, and I wasn’t thinking he’s tired tonight, I’m thinking maybe we’ll get a little better changeup on this weekend, having thrown him on Tuesday. … He wants to win as many as he can, he’s a great leader, and the guys just respond behind him, they play great ‘D’ and they love seeing him out there.” <-
