UConn vs Jackson State postgame thread

Thumbs sore from "flicking with the clicker" trying to watch too many games at once. Nice, neat win for the Huskies, Paige could go for 40+ a game if she choses. Edwards didn't take kindly to the rough play, and sent a nice message. Steady, Eddy Ashlynn didn't sit a minute, and kept on tickin"! Movin" on up!
 
Survive and advance. :)

Credit to Jackson St. They hit some big 3s and their experience with a tough OOC schedule really showed. They were not about to back down from a challenge.

Unfortunately for them, UConn has Paige, Ashlyn, AE, Nika, KK, Ice, … :)

Massive props to AE for hanging tough the whole game. It barely showed that she hadn’t played in 2 weeks. And no fear at all playing physical in the paint. You love to see it.

Paige did Paige things. Nika was the usual floor general and had some clutch buckets. Ashlyn went off and got herself a career high in points. Everyone played well. It never felt like they didn’t have control over the game. That last ~6 minutes or so of Q4 was mostly just running out the clock instead of running up the score.

One down, let’s rest up and get ready for Monday!

Glad for the win. We started the game well and got off to a good lead which we held onto for the rest of the game.
Per my pre-game expectations, we started strong on defense. Perhaps we backed off intentionally once we had a lead. We made 68 field goal attempts, which resulted in a respectable overall score. We made 24 3 point attempts which is good. I was a little surprised we got only 10 free throw attempts to their 22. Maybe we did not drive to the basket often enough. We had 15 turnovers. That needs to be tightened up a bit.

overall, a strong start to the tournament. Paige, Aaliyah, and Ashlyn had great games. Others made strong contributions too.

Onto game 2. Go Huskies!
 
I know UConn is missing some pieces, just like last year, but the major difference is this UConn rendition has a healthy Paige in the lineup. You could see it immediately at the start of the game.

Like Nan stated, one down and more to come.

If Ashlynn can continue her offensive aggression, it will free up room for Paige, making UConn a very hard out. Can't wait for Monday.
 
Uconn did it. The 29th ....30 win season and counting. 3 starters in double figures and 2 players with double doubles, Paige and Aaliyah. And Nika, 7 assists closer to Uconn's assist record all time. Jackson State had BIGS and we prevailed. Bring on Arizona or Syracuse, We are ready. GO FRESHMEN!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!! GO ASHLYNN> ANOTHER GAME LIKE THIS ONE!!

The refs for one stretch of the game was borderline incompetent.

Paige, Shade, Aaliyah were great. KK was good, but she needs to be more of an offensive threat consistently because you can see the teams laying off of her and Nika most of the game. Brady had great looks and just missed, but she's solid out there and doesn't seem to be a liability anymore. Q had good and bad, but it was nice to see her hit that 3.

Nika had 5 assists leaving her 1 behind to tie MoJeff. I counted 5 more assists she would have had in the first half alone if they had made the baskets
Paige got her 2nd double double of the season and AE her 17th..both have to continue to play that way
Ash..what can you say..if we could count on that performance each nite Uconn would be a tough out against anyone
Nice to see Uconn outrebounded them except in offensive rebounds
Still worry about foul trouble

Interesting. They were 1 seeds all those years playing 16. This year 3 playing 14.

What’s your point? The Huskies are a 3 seed and played a good opponent rather than a cannon-fodder 16 seed

I am guessing that you might be referring to is Dee Kantner and she is still working this tournament. She was either in Columbia SC or Baton Rouge yesterday doing the lower seeds matchup.
