UConn vs. CCSU @ J.O.C. (4/30/19 @ 3p)

Listened to the game on the way home, sounded like good work from both Simeone and Mayock.

Any word on why Kenny Haus did not start?

I didn't catch the pre-game w/ Crispino but don't remember it being discussed once game started.

That's the problem with work. I can't listen to this stuff until I get into the car to leave.

Bottom 7th, UConn strands 2 runners on base. Will Lucas pinch hits for Nucerino and flies out, so he is still looking for his first hit.

B7: Winkel K's, Langer BB, Lucas pinch hitting for Nucerino flies out and Toppa singles but Prato flies out in foul territory.

Onto the T8 w/ Jake Sanderson making an appearance on the mound.

Penders' players play exactly the way he wants them to play. Taking chances on the basepaths has been his hallmark since he began coaching.

From listening to his interviews over the years, Penders definitely believes that in the college game you gain more than you lose by being aggressive in all facets of the game. Among other things, he believes it forces the other team to make plays and mistakes. Still, I expect he will be critical of the Fedko's and their base running in the post game interviews.

Sanderson gives up lead-off single but throws a scoreless inning. 9-1 heading to B8

Good outing for Sanderson none of the wildness he has shown in recent appearances. Expect to see Avery Santos do his customary 9th inning closeout appearance in a midweek game that isn't all that close.

Some might say that is not true when it comes to being too aggressive at the plate which is also his philosophy. That makes it easier on the pitcher especially in the College game where pitchers tend to be wild.

Cole Brodnansky pinch hitting. It's been a long time since he was in a game.

Polonia gives up a walk but closes this out. Ball-Game over. UConn wins 9-1.

Man, Santos must be in the doghouse after the UMass fiasco.

Perhaps. Still, there were a number of UConn pitchers who are not seniors who did need the work, and got it today. I still think Penders is hoping that Polonia might emerge down the stretch of this season.

Mike Crispino postgame interview, Coach Penders says Angus Mayock got the game ball, he's been coming on of late. Makes me recall that Caleb Wurster and Angus Mayock were being mentioned in the same breath by the coaching staff in interviews at the beginning of the season.

Lots of love for Angus Mayock in today's interviews. Sounds like Mayock could be seeing more time on the mound down the stretch, they've seen growth from him. Also says that Coach Mac has been advocating for him since day one as he thinks Mayock can be something special.

... and a fitting swipe @ "the guys from Gibsonia" as only Penders could.

Yeah, I had a good chuckle at that. In the Crispino interview, Penders said they looked like they needed maps and compasses on the bases, or something like that.

Really nice win
I wish I could have been up there - damn work thing - again
I think the issue with Santos is in his head, but felt this would have been a good time to let him throw to a few batters to see where he is at.
