UConn v. URI 5/16/17 @3p @ J.O.C.

Doesn't help that when we do get a base runner, we get doubled off on line drive outs. Unless it's a hit and run, shouldn't happen.

.-.
HBP to start the bottom of the 3rd. We really need Winkel to step up.

Sounds like we are having awful luck with balls batted in play.

We are apparently hitting .203 with runners in scoring position. Adios mio...to the 4th, no score.

Good pitching and defense today.

I am curious what the plan is for this offense next year. We came in with the "swiss army knife" approach this year, but didn't use it much early on because we were smacking the ball and do not use it much now because we suck at bunting and baserunning.

This URI pitcher is lucky as hell, he has been getting shelled all day but we keep just missing big hits.

5th inning, 0-0

Bases loaded, 2 outs for URI. It's almost like we need to score to win or something.

Our season is over. It was...fun?...but if we want to make national noise next year, we HAVE to add power while getting better on the basepaths.

And Penders goes back to Rajkowski and Dandeneau who have struggled this year and do so again today, yet like I have said before Nepiarsky still gets meaningless action and not used in this big game when needed.

I really feel bad for the pitchers on this team. If they give up a run they're almost guaranteed a loss. If we score 3 runs it's a miracle.

Offense stinks right now. Put in Bergmann and Lambrecht. Try anything at this point.

UConn bats having another stellar day, sigh. PJ Poulin pitched great in his 35 pitch stint. UConn catchers continue their late in the season renaissance in throwing out base steelers, it was LeFevre's turn to throw someone out.

One of the confounding things about the bullpen is that relievers such as Rajkowski and Dandeneau have had stretches when they have been terrific, but have fallen badly out of the terrific mode.

Can somebody tell me why Yahn is batting 5th

I find it a bit odd myself. I think it is just another unsuccessful effort to shake up the lineup.

How many times has a UConn runner at 3rd base been caught going home on a ground ball? I think it's in double digits.

We only score 1 after loading the bases against a team tgat just got shelled by George Mason. Ridiculous.

UConn picks up a run in the 7th to make it 3-1 Rhode Island. Ryan Radue relieves Wallace in the top of the 8th.

.-.
Why is Hill playing over Lambrecht? Lambrecht seemed to show signs of having some pop in his bat. Hill is a lost cause at this point.

8th inning, RBI double by Yahn makes it 3-2 Rhode Island going into the 9th.

Funny that we talk about lack of power and yet the clean up hitter O'Neill it was mentioned was enrolled at UConn back in 2013. He is hitting .333 with 13 HRs. Wonder what his story was?

Midweek pitching has 11 strikeouts, 0 walks, and has only given up 3 runs to a decent team.

Time for a new hitting coach?

I'm for it. Has one player showed improvement as the year has progressed? Everybody seems to be going backwards.
